Can we talk about boxes please? Why do some of us at one point develop an obsession about packaging? I bet many of you bought this 4-pack twice, one to unpack and one to keep in box. If you had told me about this behavior ten years ago I would probably have declared you as crazy. Now I sit here and find this packaging somewhat intriguing (although I opened it already to see what is inside—the sealed packaging, I assume, would be the next level of obsession). To some point I could relate already years ago, that people would buy TVC figures and keep them mint on card: a) that’s how we saw the Kenner figures in the stores and it conjures up childhood memories, and b) you still see the actual toy in the blister without having removed it (and may even preserve it that way in a better fashion than putting it into a bag); but I had zero understanding for those who keep their toys in boxes, where they don’t even know, if the toy that is supposedly inside, is complete etc. But well here we are, because now I am thinking about what to do with this box? I bought it because I wanted Captain Antilles and yes I also like to army build my Rebel Fleet Troopers. But what will I do with the box, once I took the figures out, did some shots here and there, and store them in bags somewhere? I will probably keep the box and store it in another box full with empty packagings—and I hate it! I hate having a shelf with boxes full of empty boxes, and yet I can’t convince myself to simply throw them away. I remember 30 years ago when I was a long haired teenager, I was friends with a guy in his early 40s who let me set up my drum kit in his basement, and I remember how he mentioned his “box fetish”, which was about some hand picked boxes to store his CDs and books in. I couldn’t relate. Now that I am in my late 40s, am thinking of that “box fetish” again. Is it something that happens to us nerds over time?
