Idk if I’ve mentioned this before, but the central theme of their relationship is unconditional love. It takes them a while to figure out that included in their unconditional love is a love of each other as predator and prey. It takes a long, long time for them to understand themselves, let alone accept the intense nature of their relationship.
Eventually they reach a tepid sort of equilibrium. He sits outside her door like a neglected dog each night, and she lets him. She’s stopped trying to get him to go away — maybe she’s starting to enjoy his company, even.
Sometimes when Anise is feeling particularly altruistic she’ll sit on the other side of the screen door, and answer all of the inane questions he has for her. He has an seemingly endless list of inquiries. What’s her favorite color, how does she take her coffee, what did she dream about last night and does she think it means anything? She’s never met anyone with the singular, acute focus of Jasper. Even when she’s just sitting there, not saying a word, he looks at her like he’s trying to learn every facet of her, like it’s the last time he’ll see her.
He’s charismatic, she’s always known that. He could charm just about anyone, including her. Surprisingly, her budding affection for the vampire doesn’t bother her all that much. He’s become a part of her life, simply and wholly. She can’t imagine him not knocking on her door at gloaming every evening, not sharing the nights with him, even in this strange, stunted way.
But — the fear was always there, still. Deeper, further down than even she can dig up. It’s a primal thing, a blood-memory thing.
The relationship between predator and prey.
Then one night, the screen door is left open. Anise has been cooking, left the door ajar to keep the air circulating, cool the house. She only remembers when Jasper is already there, staring at her through the gaping maw of it. She knows he can’t come in, not unless she gives explicit consent. And yet, the knowing doesn’t completely quell the instinctive fear, the cold adrenaline that spiders up and down her spine, the brings her to a freeze for a few long seconds before she finally slams the door in his face.
“Not tonight, vamp,” she says, trying for an unaffected tone. Her hands are shaking.
It makes Jasper feel wicked; the way she cowers, the way she trembles. He would never, ever hurt her. But he could.
Anise is such a very good girl —does wanting her so deeply, so direly, make him a very bad man?

I was guessing it'd maybe get 20 notes but as of right now it's in the 600s. This feels extra good because I personally have a big problem with finishing multi-piece projects, I tend to quit them halfway and then get mad at myself for it. So seeing all these people enjoying what I was able to kick myself in the butt and pull off is inspiring me to do better, and get excited to try more stuff.

I noticed that even though the theme of the blog is to get people away from reality and relax, I tend to make my content a slow burn. Doesn’t seem to really match my intentions and goal. Does it? I’m actually curious.
