Minor King by Jim Mitchem My rating: 5 of 5 stars Minor King is a story for those of us who question whether the American Dream is an illusion, a cultural and generational ideology. Those of us who have come to realize the futility in seeking the Dream and have embarked on a quest to find purpose and relevance, and freedom from the cages of responsibility and obligation and supposed normalcy. This is the plight of James Christianson, the narrator, a talented man, husband, and father who overcame his share of demons to achieve a modicum of success - and whose life's pursuit was the American Dream. Until it wasn't. A series of seemingly unrelated (some irrational and irreverent) events push him to take the necessary steps to follow his heart. If this is your story, too, do you ever consider to what lengths you will go to break the chains and be free? And if this isn't your personal story, you will still enjoy Minor King. It's a darn good book that grabs hold, pulls you in close, and doesn't let go until the jarring, unexpected end.
