Is it just me or do a lot of conversations about minor coded characters have a lot of accidental racist and body shaming undertones?
(Sorry for the stupid measurements Iām American just bare with me)
āLike a big bust on a short character is fetishizing minorsā I have 3 friends under 5ā5 who have D cups or over. Theyāre adults now and still that short. When they had bust that size under 18, theyāre bodies werenāt inherently sexual. Large bust arenāt inherently sexual.
āUsing height as main evidenced that a character is a minor.ā This one is is just stupid. Iām 18 Iām 5ā0. My mom is in her 50s and sheās the same height. My aunt is in her 40s and is 4ā10. Weāre all latina and on average are shorter just like how on average asians are shorter. Not all characters especially not all ANIME CHARACTERS FROM JAPAN are going to be based on the average caucasian heights. Not to mention not every white adult is going to be like 5ā7.
āThe character isnāt shown drinking alcohol or having sexā ššš not body shaming or racist I just- what? I know it isnāt a common one but I have seen it and I just have to say w h a t? I guess yoda is a minor.
āI know this character is canonically an adult or it makes the most sense for them to be an adult in context. But theyāre petite and cute so theyāre a child.ā I have seen whole essays that essentially some up to this sentence. Me and all the other women in my family have always been perceived as younger than we are and thatās fine. But ālooking like a childā does not give you an excuse to infantilize a character that is or likely is an adult. Treating people with a different level or respect due to their body is bad and I donāt believe I have to explain this to people.
NOTE: this post is NOT about characters that canonically have the body of a child but are immortal or a species that ages very slow. This is not 6000 year old toddler this is about, ācould be anywhere from 17-23 but weāre not sure/has a babyface/has the audacity to be short.ā. There are characters that are probably teens that have unconfirmed ages, but please actually use context clues instead of just basing everything on their body type. The way a character acts and the context of their story will tell you their age much more accurately than their looks.
