(Had to repost this due to me mislabeling games for a bit)

Unfortunately, I lost track of the ask, but I finally got around to responding to someone who asked me to talk about which group I think was better: The Champions from Breath of the Wild or The Sages from Tears of the Kingdom.

I’m not saying Professor Venomous and Boxman are in fact going to end up together. That’s actually pretty dang unlikely. But OK KO is definately a show that could get away with it. 

The show’s so positive and upbeat, it’s actually kinda gives Steven Universe a run for it’s money. In a show like this, it’s actually kind of hard to write a truly monsterous character. Though Lord Boxman and Professor Venomous are certainly villainous characters who do bad things, I find it hard to imagine these characters crossing the line into Bill Cipher territory anytime soon.

The good thing about shows like this is that we don’t actually have to feel bad for liking a villain. Lord Boxman is already a pretty affable character, he’s funny and incompetent, and also kinda sorta a flawed but decent father figure. Being voiced by Darkwing Duck certainly helps.

If the show wanted to, it could pair these two up romantically. It’s humanizing and sweet, and given the nature of these two character’s it’d also be pretty hilarious. Lord Boxman could lighten up Venomous’s life with his tendency towards jumping into things without too much planning, while Venomous could elevate Boxman to levels of villainy he’s only ever dreamed of.

At the end of We’re Captured, we’re actually given a glimpse of how a relationship like this would play out.

The biggest issue in writing a relationship like this is trying to balance the affable cute stuff with the evil stuff. It’s very easy to make a relationship like this come across as mean spirited, as if being gay somehow makes you evil.

But then again, we’ve had cartoons in the past where gay-coded characters are allowed to be antagonists without losing their affability. In the case of Gravity Falls (a show some might considere less silly than OK KO), we actually have two sets of characters like this, with Blubs and Durland made explicitly canon in the finale.

Another thing to take not of is the general tone of this show. Silly, adventurous, and absurd with a big heart underneith the surface. We’ve had episodes we’re the characters all turn into furries of all things, and yet another episode that pretty much confirms that that change was indeed permanent. Characters include a Bunny named Potato, a robot who gives haircuts, and Sans Undertale ™ . 

A move like making the two leading villains romantically involved with one another sounds rediculous at first, but when looking at the rest of the show it seems downright tame. Why not make Voxman a thing?

This episode’s plot is seems take some inspiration from Homer’s The Oddessey.

The basic premise for both stories is of a man trying to get home to their significant other, only for divine interference to get in their way.

Marco is Odysseus, on a tireless journey to get back home that takes an obscene number of years to get through.

Hekapoo is a combination of Circe, Calypso, and Poseidon. Like Poseidon, she is the reason Marco is having a ton of trouble getting back home. Like Calypso,  there appears to be a certain amount of unresolved sexual tension that still only comes second to the woman waiting for him back home, and like Circe, she’s a crazy witchy femme fatale who manages to act as both a temptress and an antagonist towards the main hero. Her name appears to be a reference to a different witchy goddess Hekate, who may or may not be the mother of Circe.

Alright, alright, I guess this could just be me, but I can’t just leave this alone... spoilers for the origin story of Marvel’s Spider-man... though c’mon, we all know the story, and DisneyXD put up all the shorts anyways (here’s a custom playlist).

Anyways...

This is Uncle Ben’s Killer

And this is Peter Parker himself

Guys, I’m pretty sure the resemblance is on purpose, Ben’s killer looks like an older version of Peter Parker. Not for any plot related reasons, but for something more symbolic.

In the actual short, Peter Parker takes revenge on the killer by giving him a particularly brutal beatdown, seemingly with the in intent to kill (though this is never outright stated). For most of the one-sided fight, the killer’s face is obscured, either because the camera is at a distance or because Spider-man himself webbed it up. When Peter finally gets a good look at the killer’s face, he has a revelation.

The actual, literal interpretation of the scene is that Peter recognizes the killer as the guy he let get away during his wrestling interview, but the symbolic interpretation is Peter realizing that he himself is Uncle Ben’s killer. Peter ceases his violence and the real killer gets caught by the police.
