With the lights turned off, the room was unimaginably dark, until you drew the curtains back and wide open.
The silvery lights tinged with the scarlets and ambers of the street danced across the room as you spun, fingers brushing invisible tethers in the air, untying the stresses of the world from you and the room.
Mingi ambled in through the door, hands full of groceries and an envelope retrieved from the letterbox firmly gripped between his lips.
He hummed in surprise as he inevitably came to a halt not even three steps inside, watching you freely wind around the empty space, making your way to the stereo. Finally, you connected your phone to the slot, and pressed play, letting the calming melodies crackle over the cheap speakers.
He watched your expression lighten into an even brighter smile, enveloped in peace and bliss.
He muffled an ‘ok’, followed with a laugh, before his hands were freed from the restraints of the plastic bags. In a swift movement, you’d placed them on the nearby desktop, and returned to steal the letter.
“Those lips aren’t for bills you know,” you whispered, giggling as you eased the paper away and replaced it with a kiss.
It was just a few seconds long, but it had captured him. Deep, soft, warm. Cheeks flushed with the sudden contact, he raised his hands to meet your hips and pull your body to his.
But before he could, you’d slipped away, leaving his lips cold to the air.
His eyes followed your shadow in the dark, looking for an explanation, to find you discarding the envelope by the groceries as if it were nothing but just another plastic bag.
Soon enough you’d returned to him, however. Though to his surprise, it was you that took the lead and, clasping one of your hands in his, the other to his shoulder, you swung him into some convoluted waltz, laughing victoriously as you went.
He yelped to the say the least, until his palm finally rested on your shoulder blade. While you lead the charge, he tried to follow your steps, just barely avoiding tripping over his feet. Meanwhile, as he watched you laugh serenely, eyes curved in incredulous joy, his heart did not avoid the same fate: instead, he fell head over heels for you.
It was this moment—he would recall much later to anyone curious enough to ask—when he realised that he’d found the one that he needed to stay with, no matter the cost. He was utterly, wholeheartedly, stupidly in love with you, and your dumb and very unanticipated antics.
After propping him up from stumbling, you changed tact, slowing the two of you gradually, and moving your arms to rest neatly at his neck.
This he responded much better to, instinctively nestling his hands on the small of your back, and inclining his tall frame into yours.
“Hello,” you coyly greeted, his face a lot closer now, beautifully sculpted, his eyes glittering like the night skies’ ocean delicately embroidered with moonlight.
“Hi,” he replied, quickly catching the rhythm, and swaying gently with you to the song as it began to pick up once again.
“You look so handsome tonight,” you breathed, “you know that?”
It wasn’t possible for his smile to be any wider. “Thank you, but the real question is if you know that you’re the most beautiful person in the world.”
His heart swelled as his comment warranted another laugh. Mellow and sweet, it was the only thing he wanted to hear every day.
“I think I’m on my way to believing you.”
“Good,” he nodded, leaning in ever-so-slightly closer, so that you could just feel his breath on your lips. “Because it’s the truth, and I can’t lie to you.”
“Min, you’re so cheesy tonight, what has gotten into you?” you asked, fingers reaching up to gently brush his wind-caressed hair.
“I think I caught it from some crazy girl, did you see her?” he paused, barely keeping his breath steady, eyes brimming with light, creasing at the sides, while he tried to contain himself. “Prettiest girl I ever saw! She was dancing around this very room—you couldn’t miss her.”
You gave in.
His lips were too inviting, his voice too delectable, his warmth beckoning you to let him surround you, immerse you, flood your heart with that rich, raw emotion that you were certain only he could give you.
Lips meeting, he’d gotten what he was after, but you didn’t care. All you knew, and all you wanted to know, was that he was there, in your arms, hearts matched in the sway of a song that quietened the rest of the world around you.
You had the man you loved at last.
And, at least for now, he was all yours.
