“What, this old thing? Actually, you’d be surprised how many designers and tailors are willing to step up and make clothes for me.”
Joking aside, that was a lot to unpack, but when has it ever NOT been that way with Tony? What did it matter, though, when the man was very much alive and looking like his old, fit self again. And Bruce feels warm in a way that has nothing to do with his sweater.
“You know how that saying goes. The more things change…” His smile crinkles the lines at the edges of his eyes. “I think you’re allowed to let your self control slip. Pretty sure I’ve got enough for the both of us.
“Well, you’re not wrong. You’re never wrong, honestly, but... yeah. You asked for it.”Â
Stepping in, arms wide to advertise where he was going with this, Tony hugged him, his embrace only managing to encircle about a third of Bruce’s huge body, face pressed against the sweater he’d admired somewhere in the region of the other man’s massive rib cage. He would have laughed at how ridiculous it all was if he hadn’t been so goddamned relieved.
“I missed you. So much.” Muffled but painfully honest, he fell silent, his arms tightening, refusing to let go again. He was pretty sure Bruce wouldn’t judge him too heavily if the material against his cheek ended up a little damp, but it didn’t hurt to sweeten the pot a little.
“We should have a welcome back party. I mean... you, me and science. Maybe some take out. Best time ever. What do you say?”

“It’s a problem, I get it.”
“Uh huh. For some reason, I feel like you’re patronizing me.
Not sure if it’s the smirk or the little paper umbrella tucked behind your ear that’s giving me that impression, but there it is. I’m serious, Bruce.”
' get out of here... and stay the hell away from me. '
"Bruce? What— I mean, admitting ignorance is definitely not my kink, but I have zero clue what I did. Other than the things I always do. Which I'm assuming aren't dealbreakers since it's been a decade. Is this where I confess all the possibly inadvisable upgrades I'm planning and you reel me back in?
"I'm at Defcon 1 here, help me out."
"tony, what-what the hell is JARVIS talking about? what protocol?"
"Well, shit. You got me. Very strategic of you, J."

THE FIGHT’S OVER, and for the first time in what feels like a lifetime —— he doesn’t know what’s coming next. The future feels open, and for once? That doesn’t feel quite so overwhelming.Â
The losses, of course, will take time.Â
“ Thanks, Bruce. ” There’s a small crack of a smile, and the soldier offers up a hand. “ Think I might go see the world for a bit. Take a vacation. Get some of that life Nat was always telling me to get. ” That smile goes a little crooked, but at least it stays. “ What are you going to do? ”Â

Alright, he might be a little out of it. His morning routine had been thrown askew from an early morning phone call--he was needed to “consult” on a bit of SHIELD business. That is, someone wanted to do something, and now, as the Commander, he was stuck listening to an hour long phone call as the person on the other end listed out pros and cons. Every time he’d tried to push the choice back onto the agent on the other end, he cited some form of senior approval needed at some step in the chain that was keeping him from moving forward to this next step and--
And Steve had gotten a bit curt, told the guy to do his job and worry about getting the permissions later. And hung up. It probably wasn’t his best performance, but hey, it was early. And because of that, he’d skipped his jog and gone straight to the kitchen for breakfast, which was a simple bowl of cereal that he’d, apparently, completely blanked on adding milk to. Staring at the bowl, then the offered milk, Steve made a low sound in the back of his throat before taking the carton. “Thanks. Long morning. Why’re you up?”
