Mimic Me
Mimic Me By: LaDarien M. Tubbs
"Anybody can become angry - that's easy, but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not at all easy". I find that quote by Aristotle to be as powerful as any quote from Scarface. The bad part about it is that i find myself trying so hard to live up to that standard of life, I fell even lower. Let’s flashback to when it all started shall we.
I had it all, the million dollar house in the hills, Lamborghini sports cars in the garage, the well decorated fashion of high end suits, the women who would do just about anything to get so much as a smile from me, and last but not least respect. Yeah you can say i had it all, but now look at me....stuck in a eight by ten cell with just a toilet and a bunk, three days before my release.
"Time to hit the yard Mr. Lathan" said, the prison guard.
Yep that’s me Mr. Bryan Lathan himself, the boss of all bosses, the king of all kings, i had these streets controlled from the upscale district to the lower district, now I hear that theirs somebody outside these walls who's trying to mimic me. On the yard everything was as usual, you had the Latinos, whites, blacks, your typical gang members, then there was me "The Crème De La Crème." It was always the new inmates though, the ones who wanted to prove themselves as the top dog, but they soon found out how things worked around here and then things go back to normal. As I prepared for my release I began to think about what’s next for me once I’m released back into the normal population.
It’s nothing like seeing those prison gates open knowing that your about to be released with a chauffeured car waiting out front to greet you with the finest champagne money can buy and the luxury of controlled air condition, but that wasn’t the case. Sure I had all of those things waiting for me but I also had an added guest. I remember it like it was yesterday, that amateur smirk he had plastered on his face as he sat comfortably in the back of my Lincoln town car.
"Ah, Mr. Lathan, what a pleasure it is to finally meet you, -I hope you don’t mind but I took the liberty of accompanying your chauffer to welcome your arrival back home."
At that moment I began to think to myself how dumb this unknown character had to be to disrupt what’s supposed to be a pretty important day for me, but I sat quietly as he began to finish about potential business plans he had in motion.
"And what exactly might that be" I asked,
"I noticed a lot of things were in your favor before you left, but seeing as how this is now my city-"
I proceeded to cut him off. "I’m sorry Mr....?"
-"Please call me Jason" he insisted,
"Ok Mr. Jason, I appreciate the message, really I do, but in case the 8 years I’ve been in incarcerated suddenly made you feel some type of way about how I do business, let me be the first to apologize for my absence. And as far as that statement goes you had a nice run up to now and I’m sure you acquired a lot of wealth in that time but this is where you take some time off before u piss off the wrong people, you understand where I’m coming from? So Joseph if you could please pull over right here i think Mr. Jason would like to walk the rest of the way, isn't that right Mr. Jason" I replied,
"You have no idea who you are fucking with" he screamed In fury, I laughed,
"That’s funny cause neither do you, good day Mr. Jason" and as i was pulling off I couldn’t help but think about one thing....MONEY!!!! "
Joseph, I need a new suit, let’s swing by my place shall we"
TO BE CONITINUED.......
