"I am a community journalist. I have long given up any notion of being some kind of foreign correspondent. I love being a community journalist, but you cannot be a community journalist if you are afraid of the community you cover." Props to Mike Simons for this awesome photography project. There are so many interesting people whose stories deserve to be told, and Simons is doing a great thing by making himself transparent in his community. Foreign correspondents are an essential part of the media, of course, but so are the oft-forgotten or neglected local reporters, photographers, and bloggers who are out there in their communities day after day. The local is no less important than the national or international.
