Mierin is an Artist (an old abandoned aspect of my Dreamer Midnighter Talent that I isolated and made its own Talent and she's basically the same as the kid in Chalk Zone). She makes things by drawing them, but she can't make things that work unless she draws the parts and can put them together - or if she can draw something put together, she has to be able to represent the parts in her drawing and how they work together without using labels because those don't do anything. Trouble is, she's terrible at drawing things (because, as Joar frequently points out, she never practices!). She used to draw all the time when she was a kid, until one day at school she decided to use her Talent to impress a boy she liked (guess who~!). Except he and his friends are all daylighters. She told him not to tell (naturally, he told his friends who told their friends), and she couldn't resist the attention she got for it. And then her parents found out because the adults were starting to question how she did it (in this case "magic" doesn't mean "magic tricks") and didn't like her disrupting the class. And she got in trouble for it and her parents called in a local Mindcaster for some damage control (forcibly repressing their memories - sometimes doing actual damage - yes, the kids too). After dealing with her punishment and the mildly confusing and uncomfortable social interactions following all that damage control, she stopped practicing drawing (not all at once, but her interest petered out). She was afraid of accidentally using her Talent in public (so no doodling in class or taking art classes) and didn't like hiding out in order to use it.
Instead, she focuses her energies in normal time pretending to be a daylight daylighter and getting close to that guy she likes (and keeping other girls away). Meanwhile, her life as a Midnighter mostly involves teasing Joar and making him practice his violin "for both of us" and basically barking orders if they get into any real trouble. Whenever he suggests that it's her turn (to practice her Talent) she pretends she has no clue what he's talking about and says she isn't interested in learning to play an instrument.
