8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

After I read Hannah Moskowitz's A History of Glitter and Blood, especially when I read her tumblr post that said the novel : “It’s about PTSD and who’s allowed to write women’s stories.” And I was quite taken with that. And also the prompt --- and oh, he can’t wait until I read him my work in the morning, / how it’d go great with the excuse he’ll leave / for never calling back / when I don’t write the right words.Just seemed to go together - especially under the circumstances that you encouraged me to think about Dawn-the-writer and Jess-the-writer in competition. It just all worked. But also Moskowitz and her novel were the only RL-scenarios that influenced it. 

Also fuck that fic. It’s beautiful and on the record: it’s ALL Lucy’s fault.

6:  What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

The original characters. I rarely do original characters and I must say - these ones are so delightful. The Muslim twins that don’t let Dawn wallow in self-pity and take an active interest in her love life. The older lesbian that thinks Dawn is the cutest. The boy that tries to date her and fails, but is pretty cool with it. And while they are all there to ‘teach’ Dawn something, because it’s her fic, I also hope that they also existed for the sake of themselves. We only see them from Dawn’s perspective, which is limiting, but I love them regardless. They are sweet and sassy and different. And everything that BTVS was lacking. because BTVS was lacking - it didn’t give Dawn relationships outside of the Scoobies (aside from Janice), it didn’t give us POC or queer characters outside of Willow. The only good guy we got was Xander’s Nice Guy? (gross) And so I tried to fill in these gaps. And I really hope I did. 

Also - aside from Noona - this was at the time, the longest piece I had written. And it’s not plot-heavy. This is a character piece through and through. There are mini-plots all throughout. Janice’s parents. Janice’s love life. Janice’s secret art-life. Celeste’s relationships outside of Dawn. Jeremy dating and not-dating Dawn. Sania and Naila’s own mourning process. Dawn herself doesn’t have a plot. The fic doesnt’ have a plot. All the other characters do, but she doesn’t. It was a great work of perspective and it really stretched my writing wings a lot. 

11:  What do you like best about this fic?

Everything. The cake. The pancakes. The boys!? Jeremy and Dylan and Caleb. CELESTE. Janice having several plots of her own? Tara. Dawn thinking about them all as Camelot. Spike. Buffy. The narrative allusions. The way the fic tells you about something and then it turns out, it’s really about you - the reader. The way Dawn is struggling to find meaning and in the end, it’s all about the reader and what the reader wants the meaning to be. 

I did fucking good. This is a good fic. It made me cry while writing it.

it holds a lot of memories for me that arent exactly great and ive changed a lot as a person so i have decided to transition to another blog but still occasionally use this one for bandom related things
