#midnight raid

I was going through an journal from 2 years ago. On this day, it was a rough week in my old apartment. 

Midnight Raid rages onward full throttle with that Funky Groovy Reggae sound. This Oakland based band is a melting pot of different influences and cultures which makes up their flavorful music. Prior to their album release party at Neck of The Woods I have had the pleasure of watching them in action at different shows, so I was anxious to see how their “Oakland Loves You” album release party would turn out and well it turned out to be a pretty radtastical night! 

Benjamin as lead vocalist delivers both a conscious message and a distinct groove  backed by an incredible band of musicians. Midnight Raid is a team- with Lenny’s infectious guitar solos, Josh laying it down on the sax, to John bumping it clean on the bass its evident that each band member is a driving force blended together to create a stellar sound. Also, with V killing it on the keys and Justin keeping it steady on the drums Midnight Raid proves to be a collective effort grooving in unison. The beginning riff to “I Dont Need Your Love” still echoes in my mind even days after the concert which goes to show that Midnight Raid doesn’t just offer great live performances but great songs. “New Jim Crow” another favorite of mine off of their “Oakland Loves You” album is a special treat to experience live with an engaged crowd. Its not hard to get lost to Midnight Raid when they are in the zone. These guys carry a groove like no other and should be commended for exposing such talents. 

Before driving away from such an epic show I slipped “Oakland Loves You” in my CD player and rode the riddim home. Its a great feeling to leave a show with not just a memory of a great night but a souvenir that embodies Midnight Raid’s hard work.

Securitybedrijf Trust Digital toont aan hoe makkelijk het is om gegevens te stelen of programma's op een smartphone te plaatsen met niets meer dan een telefoonnummer.

Welke informatie staat er allemaal op je bedrijfskaartje? bedrijfsnaam? Check.

Uw naam en titel? Check. Bedrijfsadres? Check. Mobiel telefoonnummer? Oops, wat?

"All I need is a business card" zei Meir Machlin, director of product architecture with Trust Digital, die een demonstratie gaf (zie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hds4S43-v7s).

Machlin doorliep twee hacks die bestonden uit basis materiaal die beschikbaar is voor iedereen. Machlin's 'hacker tool kit' beschikte over een laptop met WiFi connectie, twee smartphones en Machlin's persoonlijk toestel wat hij gebruikte om informatie te ontvangen. Een derde toestel diende als doelwit, dit toestel werd aangevallen in de demonstratie.

De eerste aanval is gekent als 'Midnight Raid' omdat deze vaak wordt toegepast wanneer de gebruiker van het toestel ligt te slapen en dan het toestel nog aanstaat.

Machlin verzond een simpele SMS welke een beroep deed op Internet Explorer voor de eerste aanval. Eerst verzond Machlin een afbeelding naar het doelwit dat zegt "You have been hacked"  om te tonen hoe makkelijk het is om in een ander toestel te raken. Ten Tweede, Machlin runde een applicatie dat data kon ontvangen van op het aangevallen toestel. Een SMS kwam op Machlin's telefoon met het INSI nummer van het angevallen toestel, het uniek ID. Echter, Machlin merkte op dat de applicatie evengoed een contactlijst of andere kon doorsturen. Het is ook mogelijk in om een virus door te sturen naar het toestel of zelfs een denial of service uit te voeren.

In de tweede demonstratie, Machlin doorliep een controle-bericht aanval. In dit soort hacks, kan een crimineel de controle instellingen van het toestel aanpassen zonder dat de gebruiker daar iets van merkt. Hij liet ons zien hoe makkelijk hij SSL kon uitzetten, waardoor het apparaat kwetsbaar is zonder codering. Als laatste, toepaste hij een wipe-command waarmee hij alle opgeslagen informatie van het toestel kon verwijderen. Dit kan trouwens ook verstuurd worden naar alle toestellen uit de contactlijst van het aangevallen toestel.

De aanvallen, bewijzen dat sms niet langer veilig kan worden beschouwd. En dat dit soort hacks uniek zijn voor smartphones, omdat PC's geen sms functie hebben, zei Machlin.
