#musicnotation #incolor Most people learn to play the #piano starting in this position; both thumbs on #middleC πΉ There are A LOT of symbols in traditional music notation. So, please understand that I am intentionally keeping these early lessons SIMPLE!! Β° Β° Β° Β° Β° Notice that fg stands for two notes, F-sharp and G-flat (same color). Likewise, ga is G-sharp and A-flat. ab is A-sharp and B-flat. cd is C-sharp and D-flat. de is D-sharp and E-flat. Which name is used depends upon the context in which you are reading it. (Be patient with me, we'll discuss what this means in detail for many lessons π). For now, you can see why it is easiest to start playing the #naturalnotes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) on the piano. They literally put the other five notes out of the way! Β° Β° Β° Β° Β° *sidenote* successful composer, #IrvingBerlin famously preferred playing the black keys on the piano! He never even learned how to read music notation~ He paid someone else to transcribe his songs for him! - - - including "Cheek to Cheek", Alexander's Ragtime Band", "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)" Β° Β° Β° Β° Β° MUSIC is written on a set of 5 horizontal lines called a STAFF. Depending upon what symbol is placed at the beginning of the staff, music can be written in four different clefs. Piano is written in two clefs; treble clef above middle C and bass clef below middle C. #Guitar is written on treble clef only πΌ Since our lessons here are about connecting piano and guitar, I'm showing you how we transcribe notes below middle C when using treble clef. Do YOU read music notation? Are you comfortable transcribing what you hear... what you play? #singersongwriter #guitargal #musician #musicoloring #musiceducation @crayola #artwithedge #markers #dotsandlines https://www.instagram.com/p/CBei7zTjpCd/?igshid=1nd0u5mn6srzy
