My project is about the Dnieper, one of the major rivers of Europe (fourth by length). The Dnieper flows through the territories of three countries (former Soviet republics) --- Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. In antiquity, the river was known to the Greeks as the Borysthenes and was part of the Amber Road. The Dnieper is a typical river of the plains, its current is lazy and placid.
The Dnieper is one of national symbols of Ukraine. The riverbed is the longest in this country; it bends eastwards, like a big bow. The river is divided into three parts --- upper, middle, and lower. The middle course flows from Kiev (the capital of Ukraine) to Zaporizhia, its length is 555 kilometers.
This work is a part of the joint project, started by a group of Ukrainian photographers at the end of 2012. My assignment was a story about the river and its relation to the city which I live in --- Kiev. Coming to the river of my childhood, I feel the changes and the flow of life. Trying to restore my spatial identity, I draw inspiration from the river.
