(2 of 4) "Nature has always inspired me, and continues to inspire me when I feel stuck with a painting. I spent a good part of my childhood running through the Austrian Alps, and their pastures and old wooden houses and dark woods certainly had a lasting impact on me. I also grew up with tales of knights, sunken castles, and dwarves living in mountains. So not only knowing these stories, but also that they took place basically right outside my doorstep, made them feel a lot more real and alive. Just thinking about them makes me want to pick up a paintbrush!
In my eyes, “You inspire me” is the greatest compliment an artist can receive. Because then you know your art has moved someone beyond the good old, “Oh, that’s pretty!” Whether that’s a painting or a piece of literature or simply giving someone a motivational push, knowing that your work sparked an idea in someone else is a beautiful thing, I think."
