New Cool Rock for my agate collection!!! This is white moss agate! I believe this specimen is from Idaho, a state which produces some lovely moss agates. The white color of the "moss" is unusual; typically the dendrites in moss agate are green (chlorite, hornblende), or black (manganese). These inclusions are probably a white variety of chlorite.
Here it is under a microscope!
The inclusions are super intricate and lacy.
They seem to have formed in layers, following the bands of the agate.
It kind of reminds me of white seaweed!
It's like a little landscape in there. What a beautiful stone!
obsessed with microscope mondays @reddpenn you have intrigued me with rocks
