i've gotten a few questions as to why i'm not really on tumblr that much anymore, and honestly it's because it's such a toxic environment. i know i'll probably offend a bunch of people with this post, but that's ok. i'm just sick of the constant generalization/trivialization of any mental illness. everything is a mental disorder on here. you might be feeling a little low, or tired, or exhausted or whatevs, and immediately someone will comment that that is a symptom of something much more serious (e.g. depression, anxiety, etc.) and i'm so damn tired of watching people jam mental illnesses down each other's throats like that. understand that tired or sad, often just means tired or sad. stop diagnosing each other like that, it's so incredibly destructive. and at the same time there's this whole thing about body positivity floating around. this thing that you have to love your body regardless of what it looks like - and while i may agree with that statement, i think there's a HUGE grey zone there. imo there is a great difference between loving your body and accepting an unhealthy and selfdestructive lifestyle because "you're beautiful no matter what", and loving and respecting your body enough to change it for the better if that's needed. i know this is kind of a long rant, but basically i feel like tumblr does much more damage to people than good. both with what i've already mentioned, but with so much more too. this weird thing that everything, every feeling, thought etc. that a human experiences has to have a name and it has to be respected, and don't get me wrong, i firmly believe that people (often) deserve respect, but lately it's just been milked for everything, and there's a new term for every normal thing that one can go through. idk, maybe i'm wrong, but i just don't agree with it all, and that's why i've cut down on my tumblr activity.
