i love knox, but i also know it’s not the right place for everyone. what drew me here was the fact that it was so different from my high school, which was filled with rich kids who loved brand names and really epitomized socially-defined “popular.” knox is the opposite end of the spectrum. there are lots of weirdos here—it’s not unusual to find graffiti on bathroom trashcans, see people wearing animal ears, watch flashmobs in the cafeteria, or find found art. if i had to describe what a “common” knox student looks like (though i doubt such a thing exists), i’d say that we’re passionate and open-minded.

if that sounds like your cup of tea, i’d definitely recommend it. i’ve found knox to be a place that really did change my life, and that includes all the challenges we all face along the way. knox has changed the way i think about everything.

and i don’t think it’s very cliquey, even though that’s usually a concern at smaller schools. the one thing that might divide people is greek life, but the reasoning behind that is pretty logical. going greek means agreeing to participate in many, many activities with the organization every week. and when a person has to spend so much time with a core group, then they kind of end up wanting to spend their free time with them as well. so there isn’t a whole lot of crossover between greeks and GDIs (goddamn independents—a knox term).
