I've been searching for the original version of this series for over 30 years. Still haven't found it in full. The producer sent me a few clips.

A documentary mini-series made for Canadian TV in 1994, it chronicled Canadian stand-up comedians trying to make it in Los Angeles - interspersed with experienced Americans like Rich Hall and Jerry Seinfeld. The opening theme was We've Gotta Get Out of This Place by The Animals, set to black and white footage of LA freeways. I watched every episode and loved it - it got me interested in stand-up.
