Thank you so Laura Schiller for the song!
Alfred fights with his insecurities and fears that he is not enough for Winnie and the hazards of their interracial relationship. When babysitting Ollie's kids they ask him if he has asked Winnie to marry him, yet. He realizes that he has not had the courage to do so.
After reading a fairytale to the kids, Alfred falls asleep and the question haunts his dreams: The witch steps out of the book and wants to marry him, transforming into a beautiful white duck. Alfred rejects her but dream-Winnie rejects him, convinced that Alfred has chosen a more beaztiful woman.
At the same time in the real world, Winnie has a big celebrity crush on Michael Duckson and Alfred gets jealous. Again, he is afraid of losing her and that she is drawn to a drake that looks more like her. Trying his best to compete with Michael, Alfred attempts to learn the piano despite havin absolutely no musical talent, much to the torture of his father. Michael even lets them come backstage because of Winnie's fan-letter. Alfred leaves when he cannot take it anymore without Winnie noticing.
In the end, they find their way back to each other. Alfred wakes from his nightmare in Winnie's arms, overjoyed to see her again. Winnie is confronted with Michael's wife and painfully realizes that he was never interested in a serious relationship for more than one night. Heartbroken, she goes back to Alfred who has put all his anger and heartbreak into his music. Winnie realizes that Alfred loves her so much that he has actually learned to play piano for her and how rude she has been to him in the last weeks.
All their adventures, holidays and tubulent time together flashes before her eyes. Right from the start when her refuge family sought asylum, hid in his house and Alfred went to the king to get the legal papers so they could get out of prison after being arrested as illigal immigrants and stay. Only for her parents to return back home to continue their fight against apartheid with the knoledge that Winnie and her brother Tom are safe. Alfred has been by her side through it all. And what they share is what she has wanted all along.
