Is Catra too far gone for redemption?
This question is literally a sentence, but I could literally turn this into an essay, but for times sake I'll keep it short lmao.
To answer shortly β not at all.
Many other people have made (better) posts and answers to this, but I'll obviously still give you my opinion on it.
Now, if Catra was a character who did bad things for the sake of it, or something archetypical for a run of the mill villain, I'd say "no of course she's not redeemable," because it's clear she is just there to get defeated, and for Adora to be the victor.
But you see, I wouldn't even go that far to say Catra is a "villain". Not only was she Adora's best (girl) friend, but also she was literally abused by Shadow Weaver her whole life. Making her the main source of evil or main opposition (for the whole show) wouldn't make much sense. Of course that doesn't make the things she's done excusable, but it's clear Catra does these bad things because she is driven by her emotions, or at least the strongest emotion she's feeling at the time.
Nothing she ever does is ever just for the sake of "being bad". It's either to do with Adora, or her own personal conflict of wanting to prove herself, to people like Shadow Weaver, and Hordak.
For a "villain" to redeem oneself, they usually have to reach their absolute lowest point before they realise the real consequences and problems with their actions. They need time to be isolated from everything and everyone, to realise how far gone they are, and how they are going to fix it, what are they going to do to repent, if they want to repent at all.
Catra is not a bad person at her core, and comes to realise when she's pushed things (mostly Adora) too far β at the end of S3 ep6:
So arguably, one has to be close to that "too far gone" point to realise that they need to change, to better themselves for them and the people around them.
I think Catra opening the portal was the start to her absolute low point, and I believe that the Crew-Ra have something pretty big in store for Catra's arc over the next couple seasons.
Anyway, I hope this wasn't too rambly, but no, I don't think Catra is too far gone, although it will take a lot for her to atone her actions and wrongdoings.
