hey bro, i have a friend problem. i've had a friendship with this guy for over three years, which is actually an incredibly long time for me. over the years though our personalities have grown in more different directions and we don't get along very much anymore. i love him so much and on occasion he's really sweet and caring but those occasions are becoming less and less. basically i don't have any reason to be friends with him anymore but i don't want to make the final step in cutting it off.
Cutting it off doesn't necessarily have to be an event. Just let it die off naturally by spreading your attention elsewhere. That way also might help it hurt less for the both of you, too. And that leaves the option open for you both if you need eachother like no one else can necessarily help you from that three year bond.
Don't what's best for you is important and it's good you're willing to recognize that what's best isn't always what's easiest. Sometimes recognizing that isn't enough to make it easier,
But it's still possible. Just don't worry about getting it all done in one go.
