Meeting Citron was quite the experience. You werenāt really sure how you got so lucky. You could remember the way he smiled at you as he handed you the flyer for their upcoming play.
āDo not miss it!ā he told you. āThis show will be a phrasing!ā
āAmazing,ā a boy in a green hoodie corrected.Ā
āRight, right.ā He smiled at you and waved wildly as you walked away.
You found yourself going to the show. You didnāt know why. The play wasnāt something that particularly interested you. Did you just want to see that mysterious man? You found yourself watching him carefully when he came on. You watched him carefully, and decided his acting was wonderful, and very humorous.Ā
You found yourself wanting to congratulate him after the play had ended. The desire to see that stranger again was so consuming - you wanted to hear him talk with his lively voice, hear his laugh, and learn more about him. You had decided against it, choosing instead to walk home, and wait for the next play.Ā
The emotions raging inside of you were confusing. Why did you care so much? Why were you so interested? Was this love? Were you being too hasty? You didnāt know anything about this man, so why do you want to see him again so badly?
Time passed. Your life moved on. Until one day, you ran into him again. He was in the store with a beautiful woman with long brown hair. He was studying the name of the vegetables in the aisle while he helped her shop. His smile was mesmerizing, to say the least.Ā
You felt the urge to walk up and say hi. To ask them when the next show was. But before you had to think any harder about it, he noticed you, and waved politely. You waved back and smiled, feeling excitement and giddiness bubble up within you.Ā
āDo you know what this is called?ā he asked you, holding out asparagus with a confused expression.
āThatāsā¦.asparagus?ā
āAsparagus! What a fun sounding name!ā A smile returned to his face, much brighter than the one he wore before. āThank you for frightening me!ā
You were confused for a second. Frightening? Did he mean...enlightening? Those are very different words, thatās for certain. The only thing you were sure of about this mysterious man, was that he obviously didnāt quite understand the language.Ā
āCitron!ā the brunette called, peeking around from the other aisle. āCome on! We need to hurry up and get home! Iām making curry tonight!ā
āYes, yes, Director! I am coming!ā He smiled at you once more, bidding you farewell as he followed after the woman. But even when he moved out of sight, your heart couldnāt stop beating. You hated how infatuated you were with this man you knew nothing about. Maybe you were interested in the fact he was such a mystery?
Citron. Thatās what she called him. Was that his name? You loved it. For the next few days, nothing you did could stop his name from bouncing around in your head.
Time passed. Your life moved on. Until one day, you ran into him again. And again. And again. You kept seeing him everywhere you met. Talking to him. Learning small tidbits about him. Every single time, your feelings for him grew stronger and stronger.Ā
You were excited for the next play. He would be in it, so of course you were going. You held a bouquet of roses; beautiful roses of red, coral, and light pink. It wasnāt a large bouquet, 12 roses in all. You had decided today that you would get over your shyness, and give them to Citron. Congratulate him on his acting. And maybe, if you could get the words out, you would ask him to go on a date with you.
Time seemed to go in slow motion as you approached the backstage area. Were you even allowed to be back here? You didnāt know; you didnāt care. You were on a mission. You were going to give him these flowers and nothing in this world was going to stop you.
Thatās what you thought, at least.
Your heart beat in your ears as you opened the door slowly. You wished you hadnāt.Ā
Before your eyes, the very man you had been dreaming of for so long was standing next to that woman again. Hadnāt he called her the Director? His hand was intertwined with hers, and his smile was bright. His laughter was loud and his voice sweet as he talked to her. You realized it then -Ā
The roses hit the floor. Their stems snapped. Their petals were crushed - so were you. The tears were hot as they pooled in your eyes. They felt like they were burning you as they streamed down your face. You backed away from the room, vision blurry, heart hurting, and blood pounding. You choked back a sob as you turned on your heel and quickly left.Ā
You didnāt want to be there anymore.Ā
You didnāt want to see that anymore.
You didnāt want to love anymore.Ā
