one thing i really like to explore in all my aftg writings is nicky and renee. in every drafted fic there is Tension, no matter whatttt universe they’re in. no matter WHAT, there’s nicky bringing his cousins with him and hoping wherever they end up will be better, and being confronted with renee. nicky leaving home and returning to save his cousins. nicky leaving his religious house, surviving conversion “therapy” (torture.), finding out what drake did, that his parents knew. nicky with allll of that, and being confronted with renee? the girl who gets close to her cousin? the girl with the cross necklace? the girl who speaks to andrew about how religion changed her? there will always be a wariness from nicky to renee that is rivalled only by neil’s own trepidation, and there will always, alwaysssss, be a point in all of my fics, where nicky finds a way back to religion. not heavily, and maybe not even with a full belief, but with Comfort. Acceptance. he will always find a way back to believing in Something. and he will always find that through late night conversations with renee. nicky realising he wasn’t the issue through eric, and renee teaching him that religion - in its most basic, fundamental definition as a belief in a system of worship and faith of which an individual experiences alone - wasn’t the problem either.
