Who are your favorite waterfire saga characters and why?
That's kind of tough, I haven't done a reread in a while👀
When I first read the books, I loved Mhadi. Especially after I found out he was also Blu. Middle school me thought that was just tbe best book twist ever. I still think it's a pretty cool twist, tbh.
I always liked Astrid, even in the beginning. I don't know what it was that made me like her. I can definitely relate to her more than some of the others.
I liked Neela in the beginning because she reminded me of one of my childhood best friends. I really started to like her after she escaped her parent's palace and went to find her talisman.
I think I really liked Coco. I wish she had more scenes, but I also think she fit well where she was.
I'm pretty sure I was annoyed with Yazeed the first time I read the books, but I grew to like him. I don't know why or how, tbh.
I'm saying that Baby counts as a character because that piranha was so funny.
On the topic of pets, Sylvestre was a petty little monster and I am here for it.
As much as I hate spiders of any kind, I grew to like Alíthea. I can't remember why off the top of my head, but I know by the end I liked her.
On the opposite end, when I tell you I loathe Lucia. I've hated a lot of characters before and very few being out this sort of rage in me, but I really hated Lucia. In the beginning I tried to like her and hoped she would have a redemption because she felt like she was being robbed of her life and it was her fault that her parents had an affair, but that quickly stopped because she was just a greedy brat.
In all honesty, I really liked most of the characters we see often. The book was focused around Serafina, but all of her blood sisters got a lot of chapters. Most of the side characters weren't just used to further the plot, they actually had a purpose(except Yazeed. He has a purpose, but we didn't get any character description for him). Plus, I liked that the main characters were women and they were all based on different races, ethnicities, and cultures.
The first time I read these books i was in 6th grade, so I thought 16 was so old and it made total sense for teenagers to go through these trials.
The more I think about, the more I think the WaterFire Saga might be super cool as a Nrw Adult Fantasy book. For me personally, I'd put it up there with Sarah J. Maas and A Court Of Thorns and Roses.
