@mgodp tagged me to post my top 10 albums of 2017. Unfortunately, I didn’t exactly listen to a slew of new music this year, either! So I’ve elected to pick a few albums from 2016 to bulk up the playlist. Other than Tarot being at the top, these are in no particular order.
1. Aether Realm - Tarot (Best Folk/Melodeath band to come out of the US in a long time)
2. Brothers of Metal - Prophecy of Ragnarok (If Manowar were a modern Power Metal band with no shame, this would be them)
3. Ignea - The Sign of Faith (Şeytanu Akbar is a banger that I must’ve listened to 1000x this year)
4. Nothgard - The Sinner’s Sake (A 2016 entry, but a really solid Deutsch Melodeath album)
5. Beast in Black - Berserker (Super-cheesy Ex-Battle Beast guitarist Power Metal album)
6. Louis Barabbas - Jocasta: A Musical Tragedy (Local Pompey-Boi Avant-Garde political stuff)
7. Cattle Decapitation - The Anthropocene Extinction (2015, but still some of the best vocals/lyrics in an album in the past few years)
8. Alcest - Kodama (Another 2016 entry, but it took me a long time to listen to it and it’s still pretty)
9. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pacifisticuffs (Once Avant-Garde/Swing-Metal, now generally fun multi-genre nonsense)
10. Kreator - Gods of Violence (Unadulterated Metal AF. Awesome Melodic Thrash)
