this feather has some unusual dark markings. it was shed naturally and shows its age

This is... powerful. She’s powerful. Queen. She genuinely loves her monster girls y’all, stitches, organs and all. 

i feel like it can be hard to find nice examples of dove retrices, this one exhibits the sandy coloured outer edge pretty clearly. this feather was an old molt, the wear on the white tip is pretty prominent.

the irridescence is pretty perfect on this one, a lovely treat to find on a short impromptu walk

this feather shows stress banding, it is currently fledging time for the local magpies so this may be from a breeding adult.

love the white patch on this one, a common sign of malnutrition in corvids. most often seen in young adult birds still learning how best to feed themselves, though this feather may be from an adult based on size and irridescence.

a bit dirty but otherwise gorgeous, showing the yellow leading edge these birds have on their wings clearly. almost definitely belongs to one of the two that sing near my window
