Mextiza: A Collective Review
Last night Spooners decided to test out Mextiza, a new restaurant from the owners of Autentica. It is located in North Portland, off Killingsworth.Â
We actually kicked off the night at The Old Gold, a great bar located right next door. The cheap Pabst might have been the highlight of the entire night.Â
We ordered just about everything on the Mextiza menu. After all, you have to judge a place in it's entirety. That includes apps, drinks, a few main courses and desserts. Unfortunately, the collective review was "eh, we like Autentica better." The food was just so-so. Some items were too drenched in sauce to determine true flavor (see tamale photo below). Others were good, but you can find better in Portland. Not to mention the place was almost empty, except for one other couple, which never helps the atmosphere. I hate to say this, but the bar tender couldn't even tell me what an ingredient was in the drink she was making. Turned out to be cane sugar.Â
We might give it another chance...maybe it's a better lunch spot. And maybe they just have a few things to work out.
Chips with salsa and black beans
Steak special with beans
Tamale
Tacos
Empanada
