These Jameson-fuled BK/NY rockers are some favs of mine. Â All live, all off the handle, loud, fast, & exceptionally musical. Â This is not noise, it is soulful, well constructed and melodic songs that are easy and fun to sing to, with some NASTY guitars, and "feel-changes" that will make you lose your balance (in a good way).
For Jeremy Beazlie's vocals (think Jagger meets Jack White), I used a Blue Woodpecker Ribbon (singing into rear side which produces a slightly darker color, double pop filtered as well), and my homemade Pac Bell Telephone Mic (yes, it sounds like a phone, because it is one).
Both are hitting a Neve preamp and EQ on the 5315 console, then absolutely blasting a Universal Audio 175-B limiter (the real one, no re-issues here, this thing gets HOT!).  The 175's tubes start to break up at a certain point, and at that threshold lies the magic for this example...
I'll be mixing later this month. Â Lookin' forward to it.
Some other details:  We cut 11 songs in 2 days at MetroSonic, Teruhisa Uchiyama was assisting.  Check out Baby Brother's older/rougher stuff (that I recorded, mixed, and mastered all analog in 3-days) here, the new record is of a higher fidelity of course, but still just as "raw."  Check out "Rodeo Song", "Abuse", or "Ghost Train Robbers" (some of my favs).
