as i mentioned earlier, this absolutely insane look is attributed to mike marino, who has also been behind many of heidi's famous halloween looks (worm, anyone?)

i know people can be unsettled by her looks, but truly, i don't think there are many that commit to a theme like she does. it looks so incredibly like marble, but apparently it's mostly made from foam and latex? will wonders never cease?

madonna, inspired by "the temptation of saint anthony " by leonora carrington (1974)

and she came with an entourage to carry her cape too! pretty glorious, and very accurate to her chosen painting! madonna has previously been inspired by carrington's work, notably in the music video for "bedtime story" (which, as a sidenote, was written by björk!)

i have also seen it discussed that this outfit may have been a subtle protest, due to the ear trumpet possibly referencing carrington's book of the same name which discusses older women's sexuality and how society frowns upon them.

oh my god. she's so commanding. not many people have the presence to wear an outfit this huge and not be swamped in it, but she does it so effortlessly here. this train took FIVE PEOPLE to carry up the stairs. i just know she was SWEATING by the end of the night.

this piece is an homage to the painting "visitor" by caroline durieux (1944), and it's so clear and so perfect. i love it so much

kylie and kendall jenner

so i grouped these two together because?? who copied who's homework here?

let's start with kylie. the idea of being in a state of undress is pretty 'duh' for this theme, and if one is to only partially wear a dress, this is quite an elegant way to do so. she also bleached one eyebrow for this look, which is a commitment that i could not have done myself (probably why my ticket was lost in the post again)

kendall's version of the 'state of undress' vibes feels a lot more tasteful in my opinion. the tea-stained drapery is very reminiscent of ancient greek statues, and her stylist was inspired by the "nike of samothrace" in particular, and there's a really beautiful concept sketch that he shared as well (see below)

damn! the aged body indeed, sir! you age so handsomely! this look is more about the prosthetics than the suit, but the big pussycat bow is a subtle nod to a permanent piece in the met's collection: "bustle" by charles james.
