We have a teen who drives crazy dazy through our neighborhood. Every parent's nightmare. we all know her truck. we all know her face. and we all can hear her coming... just blasting down the street. haven't seen the truck in close to a month. well, not driven. have seen it parked in it's resting place. at her age (19) I assume mom and dad have her grounded for normal teen activities. teaching her a summer lesson with depriving her of her car. God knows it happened to me. she was on the varsity swim team at the local high school and I believe she just graduated. each summer, she's coaches the swim team for the little ones in the neighborhood. So regardless of the crazy driving, all the kiddos love her and she's really great with them. I was visiting with my neighbor the other night and she asked if I knew the girl... and she ended up telling me that she died earlier this month. My heart literally stopped. what?? oh no. how? I can't even begin to imagine... and such a bright future ahead of her. she was out with friends. they were partying up near college station. they had weed and meth in the car. ok, i'm shocked. whaaaaaatttttt?? meth?? I can't even believe. she was a good student. involved parents. varsity swim team. summer job with the kids and a second job at carrabbas. her mom stays at home..... what??? apparently the driver was speeding and they were getting pulled over by the police. In a panic, they tried to get rid of the evidence of any drugs. not sure where the pot went, but she swallowed the meth. all of it. by the time they arrested her and got her to jail, she didn't look well and then actually told them what she'd done. she died in med custody. I can't shake this at all. I know what a disturbingly horrifying death a meth overdose looks like. I know her parents, her family, her friends... none of them will ever be ok. and more than that, I know her parents would much rather have picked her up from jail and dealt with the drug situation than EVER have gotten that call. talk to your kids. tell them there is NOTHING so bad that we won't stop loving you. nothing you can't work through. Nothing worth dying over.... I never understood why my parents were so insanely strict. I wanted normal parents. I 'hated' them for never letting me go and do and party and..... my heart breaks every time I drive by that truck. I can't begin to imagine that pain. hug your kids, guys. kiss them often, even when they are acting out and they say they hate you. make sure they know nothing is worth their lives.
