re: the obviously doomed character not getting a happy ending, i often think about how the only way dante was going to realistically have a happy life without terrible strife or illness is if solaria was a different place. we get shown happy, well-adjusted dante in journey to the nu world and it's fairly obvious he's like that because the kingdom of samasama (that world's equivalent of solaria) is doing very well. both his parents are alive. nuworld!dante has the riches, good will, and confidence to broker a deal with a alleged demon sorcerer.
meanwhile, regular dante, our dante, has two major roadblocks. the first issue is that the riot that killed his parents was lowkey inevitable. solaria was easy pickings for any roving group of bandits or any neighboring nobles. while being ultra pacifists might be acceptable if you have the money and defense to back it up, dante's parents emphatically did not. dante's parents dying lead to regular dante with all the cuts, bruises, and chips in his shoulder from surviving that tumultuous time onward. buuuuut. there is a slim possibility that dante's parents could've survived. they died 'in an accident' (barring translation error). so, maybe they could've toughed out the threats that came after solaria and its citizens. which leads to the second issue.
the second issue breaks into headcanon territory, so take it with a grain of salt. i include it in pretty much all my analysis of dante because it lines up very nicely with canon and, in my opinion, it's a pretty reasonable extrapolation of canon. maybe it's a theory then? who knows... disclaimer over... the headcanon is, essentially, that dante's gem contract, the one his ancestor made with huey way back when, concerns 'taking care of solaria' similiar to how quincy's contract is about protecting his tribe. obviously, dante's parents were pretty staunch on not protecting solaria while they were alive because they abhorred violence. this, in turn, violated the terms of dante's gem contract. as we see with rei, violating your gem contract makes you Sick as Hell (though rei has other stuff going on too. my sickly victorian child). so, we can reasonably attribute dante's childhood sickness to his gem contract and solaria being left undefended, especially since, after his parents died and dante took over solaria and started taking care of it, at some point, dante stopped being sick. this could also be attributed to him taking his second contract with the elemental spirit of fire... so, it's not air-tight. anyhow. actually getting to the second issue: if dante's parents didn't die, then they would continue ruling solaria and dante would continue to be sick. his parents would continue to coddle him. and solaria would probably just... be stuck in an endless conflict. dante would basically be stuck as a caged bird, something he would come to resent because, even before his parents died, he was someone who wanted to do something. (to be clear, the illness isn't really the issue. it's the utter lack of agencyyy)

i fear danteās latest h-rooms may do ice sculpture things to me
oops cant ask from iyavi lol if we get new character-centric chapters for everyone in the second part of the story like how everyone got a chapter to introduce themselves in the first part, what would you want them to be about?
oooo its hard to say bc who knows what plot progression will look like. but like, yknow, if i could ratatouille the devsā¦
ok so:
chapter 17 (rin): he and eiden fix the dark altar without merging. eiden convinces him to no longer live in the cave and maybe come live with him at the mansion with the allure of being able to watch eiden in person and help him.

ive been thinking about the sort of person the king of klein is.
generally, from aster, dante, and eidenās impressions, he seems to give off a foolish and overly friendly vibe. (also, disclaimer that this is mostly from memory and influenced by my focus on events that include dante. also i havent really gone through edmond or reiās rooms for king crumbs.)
aster describes him as useless in blood key and generally uses terms like āold fartā or āold fogeyā to describe him. in festive glimmer, dante says that just mentioning eiden got the king excited to invite him to the wintertime ceremony. and in chase the rainbow, when eiden and dante go meet the king, the king opts for an āinformalā visit where heās very talkative and when eiden makes a comment about it, edmond defends the king, saying he was āso happy that he lost track of timeā.
with these in mind, i always imagine the king as a typical white-haired, jolly old fellow type.
in contrast to this outer persona, we also see the kingās actions when ruling. sending edmond to force eiden into regulating the light altar, having the central army show up at solariaās gates, etc. forceful actions. the royal court probably has some influence in these decisions, but generally, these seem to be the kingās orders to edmond.
the most transparent example of the kingās actions that iāve read is in sunburst fever. there, the king sends edmond specifically to find and retrieve a legendary magical artifact in solarian soil. iirc, there is implied pressure by the royal court. obviously, thereās conflict with solaria (dante) there, but we know the royal court doesnt care because it seems that light nobles do not think much of the fire territory (see rinās little hallucination for edmond in chapter 10). however, edmond, mr. working-within-the-system, really doesnāt want to betray/slight solaria like that. at the same time, he will not allow himself to disobey direct order.
eiden talks with edmond about his conundrum and tells him that the king probably sent edmond specifically for this mission because he trusted him to do the right thing (ie, not betray solaria).
though not everything eiden says is always true, he often acts as a conduit of truth for the writers for the sake of exposition and i think he acts as one here.
by sending edmond, the king can be somewhat self-assured he wonāt be throwing solaria to the wolves and he can also quiet his court. i think this can also be applied to edmond being sent to solaria in chapter 10.
with how pushy and cutthroat light nobles seem to be (i mean look at how they treated the past queen), it seems like the king came to rely on a foolish persona that allows him more leeway to act as he wishes and also prevent people from suspecting his true intentions that account for things besides bringing the light kingdom more power.
š¤im curious about his relation to rei. theyre both part of the noble family and we know rei had a brother. they could be related, but in rusted nation, iirc rei alluded to being part of a branch of the royal family that fell out of favor? so the king could be a descendant from one of the more successful branches. which feels like a situation ripe for drama, despite reiās abandonment of his royal identity.
yeah! dante's resentment of the grand sorcerer!! @milkeumilkeou now, when i say grand sorcerer, i don't really mean huey or eiden personally. the problem is more so the entity of the grand sorcerer that has loomed over dante for his entire life. this got super long so the tl;dr of it is that dante resents the grand sorcerer for being a flaky bastard with far too much power and ability to fuck with his life. for the longer version, though: first, there's the starter pack which is that the grand sorcerer (ostensibly) roped dante into a blood contract where dante has no knowledge of the terms or conditions. and, furthermore, dante (from what he can tell) did not benefit from the contract at all, prior to collaborating with eiden. (see: his childhood where he definitely did not get the health-boosting benefits of having a lot of essence. i also have a theory about that which is here haha. it's pretty messy... i should probably rewrite it)
the second part comes after he ascended to the position of sun lord. most of this part of the headcanon is grounded in his reaction to meeting eiden in chapter 9.
replying to iyavi on the dante body post really got me thinking about my Top Indulgence Dante HC which is that dante would the Elemental Spirit of Fire's favorite guy if the elemental spirits got recompressed into the five sons evidence for this is: 1) he passed the trials of the elemental spirit of fire 2) he can roughly understand and communicate with fire spirits 3) he respects them 4) he understands that spirits have varying personalities ("Just like humans, they possess their own individual traits and beliefs." - C. 10-1) 5) he's just so cocky about some spirits having favorites
^ the face of a guy who has been shown preferential treatment by fire spirits
i knooooow that the five sons practically do not exist. HOWEVER, imo there is still signs of unifying personality in the spirits and it's fun to imagine them 'coming back' as characters and interacting with the clan members and giving us insight on their father, the God of Klein? and them putting that copy of god on just one continent? lowkey, to them, rin and eiden might be like the children their beloved daughter sacrificed her life for. there is a good chance that they just like the twins. however, i think it's more interesting if they lowkey resent them for being the product of the destruction of their 'pseudo-father', y'know? in terms of personalities for each son, i don't have a ton hashed out. going over the important part though: the son who went on to become the fire spirits. the most prominent trait that we have of him are the trials of his spirits. from these trials, we can glean that he respects people who are independent and able to conquer their fears. now, the sample size (which is two (1)) is Not Great in general but it's Pretty Good for nu carnival given the limited room for exposition.
the primary example we have of the trials is based on the single trial that eiden took during cowboy dante's rooms. in that trial, the spirits forced eiden to confront his worst fear and they wanted him to confront it alone (though dante stayed by eiden's side regardless of the will of the spirits). (dante sticking by eiden's side causes the spirits release them early instead of putting eiden through all the trials.) during the rooms, it is indicated that the trial that eiden went through is similar to the trials dante went through as a child, so that doubles the count. another trait that we can more dubious attribute to this son is that he does not care about the status or lineage of those he bestows power to. this is solely based on dante's trials, but his trials were proctored by the most powerful elemental spirit (the elemental spirit of fire. that's what it's called. this terminology is hell) in the fire territory and i think it is a fair possibility that the amount of power a spirit has corresponds to how much of their son that they possess. dante states in his chase the rainbow unit that the elemental spirit of fire did not grant him any favor despite his family's history contracting with it. from this and the trials, it seems like the son that became the fire spirits was someone who deeply valued character, strength, and willpower and disdains reliance on others, whether it be blood or bonds. he only cared for the individual proving themselves on their own power.
with the fire son (im gonna start calling him the fire son) being such a principled and judgemental person, it feels extra special for him to like dante so much. and why wouldn't he? dante's already proven himself again and again for the fire territory. dante works endlessly hard, he powers through his weakness, and he has been forced to operate mostly alone. and the fire son, through spirits, has been witness to all of it... tl;dr, dante should be the fire son's specialist little guy, not out of nepotism, but because the fire son has been watching him work himself ragged and the fire son thinks that that's how an ideal person should act under the circumstances that dante finds himself in. the fire son should like him sooo much and spoil him and everything.
