A Reminder to Westerners Newly Interacting on Chinese Social Media, Speculation About the Timeline
A Reminder to Westerners Newly Interacting on Chinese Social Media
Please know that Chinese social media platforms are highly regulated by the Chinese Government.
The things you say will be highly scrutinized by the CCP and will impact how the government treats the situation.
If I were you, I wouldn't interact with CN social media at all, but here are some important things to keep in mind. The most important of which being:
Don't Post Anything on July 7th (On Chinese Social Media)
July 7th is the anniversary of the Lugou Bridge Incident (AKA the Marco Polo Bridge Incident). This date marks the beginning of Imperial Japan's full-scale invasion of China during WWII. As you have likely heard already, the presence of the number "0731," another WWII connection, was used to mass report Infold to CCP authorities. It was the mass-reporting and exploitation of this tragedy that got us here in the first place. This makes it especially important for us as outsiders to stay silent.
Do not post.
Do not argue.
Do not ragebait.
Do not give the CCP government any reason to doubt whether or not the game is disruptive to society. If they believe the game is harmful to their country, it very well could become banned.
But even outside specific dates, the CCP and Infold are still watching social media. And they see it when people are Sinophobic. Someone wanting to exploit our anger could try to bait people into arguments to provoke hate speech and use it as evidence against Infold and LADS.
Speculation on the Timeline: When Could We Hear Back from Infold?
I think it could be a while before we hear back from Infold. Chinese companies notably are careful during early July because of its proximity to historical events and because of any new financial policies implemented.
As of writing this, it's the middle of the night on July 5th in China. I believe that posting anything on the 6th would be quite risky should any public outrage spill over onto the 7th. I don't know if they'd be willing to risk that.
If I had to bet money, I would guess that the 8th is the earliest we could hear anything. It would have been over a week since we last heard anything major from them, which could be enough time for Infold to have had their talk with the CCP.
As an outsider though, I feel like you should take my thoughts with a whole tablespoon of salt.
