Messier 84
Messier 84, also designated NGC 4374, is an elliptical galaxy located about 60 million light years away towards the constellation Virgo, the Virgin. It is also part of the central area of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, which hosts over 1,000 galaxies.
Messier 84 hosted two documented supernova, SN1957 discovered in 1957 and SN1991bg discovered in 1991. Astronomers also mapped the movement of dust and gas, and stars at the galaxy’s center, and discovered evidence of a supermassive black hole.
