My second experience tripping on a psychedelic was at my friend “Weasel’s” house. There were 4 or 5 of us laying on the shag rug in his parent’s basement. We all dropped what I was told was mescaline in a blue lozenge-shaped tablet. Weasle and I cut a tab in half and swallowed it. We were listening to records played on a ‘silver face’ amplifier positioned close to the floor. It took half an hour for the dose to kick in, but as it did I noticed the tuning needle and dials on the amp starting to quiver and move unnaturally. A cool effect but not as spectacular as some of the hallucinations I’d experienced on acid. Weasel- who was unusually small for his age was sitting across from me with his arms drawn around his knees. I mentioned that he looked like one of the metal charms a lot of the local girls wore on a chain around their necks. No sooner did I say this than a mighty flash of color illuminated the room. Horizontal bars of colored light slid across each other. An instant layer these bars converged and sitting before me was living elf where Weasel had been a moment before! The elf had huge eyes, and a costume of leaves. The whole vision, utterly real and incredible in detail was dripping and fluid. The creature was smiling and showing its bright white teeth in a menacing fashion! I turned away and closed my eyes in shock and horror. When I told Weasel later what I had experienced he was suspicious and confused. Had the supposed mescaline tablet we split contained MOST of the dose in my half? Well, this was not the first or last time I realized that my reaction to psychedelics was far more intense than what my friends experienced. Tim Lodite, editor. The photos of the elf below are a close representation of of the creature I witnessed.
