If a Mermaid ends up overdue they will give birth to live babies as opposed to eggs.
Similar to vampires, Mermaids can have more than one person get them pregnant during a single pregnancy, but unlike vampires it does not extend the pregnancy.
Mermaid pregnancy lasts 10 to 12 months as opposed to 9 like a normal person (or 5 years like with vampires).
Deep sea Mermaids give birth to only 1 or 3 offspring who are much larger due to deep sea gigantism.

In these cases, they must go to dry land as a last resort. They must also remain calm, otherwise their birth could occur early and they would be extremely vulnerable to humans or other animals.
