Mikhail looked up at the piteous expression, his heart melted by the single word. He had thought himself lonely and without company, yet this poor creature had never even had the opportunity to be near others. It was Mikhail’s choice for safety to be along, but Erestor was never given the option.

“I will stay…” Mikhail agreed softly, though he knew he would have to go find food again eventually. The darkness did not agree with him, but there was something comforting about this place in between where he knew Erestor resided but there was no danger. His arms wrapped a little tighter around the merman, laying his cheek on the pale chest and hearing the heartbeat beneath with a smile.

Erestor’s gills released a small flurry of bubbles, pleased that Mikhail agreed to stay and he held on a little tighter. He would have to make a comfortable space for him, a nice seaweed bed, find more glowing fish and hunt the bigger creatures to feed them both. Even if he got more bites and bruises it would be worth it.
