The experience of curling up with a good book in a comfy chair isnβt what you might expect in Meredith Jamesβ βLibrary,β a standout in her show of delightfully strange sculpture at Jack Hanley Gallery. Stocked with blandly-colored, identical volumes, the miniature library set in a chair, feels more ominous than wonderful. A gallery handout suggests that Jamesβ new work explores βthings in various stages of disappearance or obsolescence,β offering an uncertain future for the written word. OK, I've talked a lot about how my FNAF OC acts, but haven't brought up anything about how she looks, so here goes:
Meredith James is a slim white woman of medium height, with shoulder-length, straight blonde hair. Her face is an unusual middle ground between handsome and childlike: its shape is a pleasantly soft oval, with large, wide-open eyes, a prominent nose, and a Cupid's bow of a mouth that always seems to be smiling. These features give her the overall impression of a life-sized doll, one with a permanent expression of innocence and wonder that rarely betrays her real feelings.
But regardless of her natural mien, Meredith is still a businesswoman, and dresses herself accordingly. Her typical outfit is a black women's pantsuit, paired with a light-colored shirt that changes depending on the weather - a simple tank or T-shirt on hot days, a turtleneck when it's cold, and a plain dress shirt for all other situations. She keeps her hair in a ponytail while working, letting it down only for interviews and personal engagements.
*While this description may ring familiar, Meredith is not secretly an animatronic, or related to Charlie Emily in any way. She just has somewhat unusual features and expresses very little emotion through her face.

In my AU, Meredith James rose to prominence during the mid-late 90s, after the fall of Freddy Fazbear's. Seeing that gap sitting unfilled in the entertainment industry, she founded her own company, called "Andropolitan Visions", with the promise of an animatronic revolution. Her flagship product was the so-called Automatronics: cutting-edge machines that required minimal programming, could be programmed entirely through voice commands, and were able to move and control themselves without the assistance of technicians.
Early development seemed to be going well: James introduced a revolutionary "teaching suit", an animatronic-like exoskeleton that could be worn by an actor to capture their movements and voice into the Automatronic AI. This data would then be put into the actual animatronic, resulting in an incredibly intelligent and lifelike robot who could perform with far more sophistication than earlier 'bots. The Automatronics made appearances at a number of tech demos and other corporate events, and Andropolitan Visions gained a reputation as the next generation of animatronic entertainment.
Things started to unravel when police began investigating reports of missing employees from James's company. While no link was ever found between these disappearances and the company itself, it was discovered that James's Automatronics were a farce - these "cutting-edge machines" were nothing more than the "teaching suits", worn by actors and covered in a costume for the character being displayed. The alleged AI technology was nonexistent - a discovery that held up in court and led to James being convicted of investor fraud.
Meredith James has since been released, and informs the world that she regrets her past actions and is ready to turn over a new leaf. She is currently working to re-aquire the IP of her old characters and found a new entertainment business, and says she is "ready to do it right this time".
Calling Meredith James "stupid" would not be doing the landscape of her mind justice. She is willfully, grossly incompetent. After all, who wants to deliver a fully finished project when they could just string the client along with false promises? Everyone else is doing it; she's just looking out for herself. You can't take any shit in the corporate world, or people will see a pretty face and assume they can take you for a ride. Meredith is just doing what anyone would do if they're smart and want to make money.
You want to use Remnant to get immortal? Psssh! Amateur hour. Meredith James can use those ghosts to make profit.
She is not, however, above feigning incompetence to get out of trouble. She didn't mean to scam all those people, honest! Everything just got away from her!
