the girl who drank the moon by kelly barnhill: middlegrade but soso good one of my favorite books of all time. found family with swamp monsters and tiny dragons and witches and magical babies and it’s so so cute and the prose is just lovely 😭😭 there’s a romance but it’s not the focus and it’s really sweet tbh
lore by alexandra bracken: greek mythology inspired and soooo so good ugh it’s pretty dark and very heavy but it’s such an interesting read i absolutely adored it
the school for good and evil by soman chainani (series): childhood fav!!! also middlegrade but definitely really really good has romance but focuses on the friendship between the main two characters (their friendship is very qpr coded tbh) and it’s just. so funny and so so good and AAAHHH!!! reimagines fairytales and the world of fairytales in a really lovely and thought provoking way and i just love it so much
spinning silver by naomi novik: naomi novik is so good omg. REALLY interesting retelling of rumplestiltsken and her writing and characters are so freaking amazing i??? it’s all in first person and the pov changes every chapter but it’s like. not confusing at all because her characterization is just So Good i adored this book
the arc of a scythe by neal shusterman (series): I ADORE THIS BOOK SERIES SO MUCH. futuristic dystopia disguised as a utopia and it’s so thought-provoking and incredible neal shusterman is amazing 😭😭😭
house of hollow by krystal sutherland: so creepy in the best way possible i love this book so much. focuses on sisters and two of the main characters are very casually queer which i think is cool. it’s just a very cool story- very stranger things-esque i think?
