Mitsune was invited to the home of an Ul’dah merchant with open arms. He was extremely skeptical of all of it, especially after killing a dirty merchant peddling drugs around the lower part of the city. It was bound to get some attention but it was his intentions to get some. Well, he had finally got some from a very eccentric merchant on a very esteemed council.
He was a lalafell named Yuyushusa Kekeshusa. Mitsune looked at the parchment dropped off to him by a messenger. He mainly focused on the name which he narrowed his eyes and blinked at a few times. Not one for surprises, he inspected the writing and investigated if this was a real person and not some elaborate trap. It turned out, this time, it was someone that didn’t want to kill him.
Mitsune walked to the door and presented his parchment to the guards which nodded to him and welcomed him inside of the enormous home. It was littered with the best quality furniture, paintings, lighting, and lavish decorations he had seen before. He walked into a massive dining hall which made him raise both eyebrows and blinked at the elaborate columns with figures carved into them. The guards waved a hand to a very comfortable seat lined extravagant gems and runes.
A lalafell dressed in eccentric garments and expensive jewely walked out and smiled brightly. He waved at Mitsune and hopped up in the chair, holding his arms out to welcome the dark knight mecenary, “Welcome to my humble abode, my friend! I am Yuyushusa Kekeshusa, mining merchant of Ul’dah!”
Mitsune was not use to this kind of fanfare. Nor was he used to anyone calling him friend.
Mitsune cleared his throat and placed his sword against the table and had to raise his voice due to the room being so large, “I will keep my weapon with me if that is alright.”
The merchant waved a dismissive hand and smiled, “That is perfectly fine. I assure you I have no quarrel with you but I know you are a man who lives by the sword. Now, to business.”
Mitsune nodded to the merchant and grinned, “Any reason that a merchant of high esteem such as yourself would want to do business with a more questionable freeblade?”
The merchant’s happiness went a little sour as he went about the offer he had to give, “Desperate times call for desperate measures, friend. I will be quite blunt about this as I don’t beat around the bush about these things. Someone needs to die.”
Mitsune chuckled and grinned with an evil glimmer in his eye, “Well that depends on the person but I’m very much capable of doing that. How much are you paying?”
The merchant made a smirk and raised both eyebrows and with a nod spoke very plainly, “Quite a hefty sum. We will get to that.” He sighed deeply and shook his head, “I need you to assassinate another merchant. His name is Sugeh'zi Yhagase.”
Mitsune shifted uneasily in his seat and blinked a couple of times as he heard the name, “Sugeh'zi? I haven’t heard anything bad about him. The only things I’ve heard is that he donates a large sum of his wealth to charities and orphanages.”
“Yes, well, you know as well as I that things are not what they seem. If you look a little closer at his activities they are extremely shady. Money laundering, intimidating other merchants, bribing authorities, etcetera. But he’s starting to pressure myself to sell my mining holdings for only a portion of what they are worth. I went to the guard after he did this with some of his thugs but they just turned me down and sent me off. I know he’s bribing them to keep quiet and cover up for him.”
Mitsune frowned and shook his head, “Are there any pieces of concrete evidence to be damning?”
The merchant got up out of his chair and walked over to Mitsune, placing a packet on the table in front of him. Mitsune looked over it and opened it, pulling out papers torn from ledgers, pictures of crime scenes from stolen evidence, and a manner of illegally collected material. The dark knight’s expression turned to anger finding multiple instances of people disappearing who investigated the merchant in question. The one that made him stop was seeing a guard and his entire family murdered, including children, before appearing in a case against him.
“This is all I need to see. Does this have all of the information I need for contacts, locations, businesses, and his personal assets?”
Yuyushusa nodded and frowned, “It’s all there, Mr. Rokuyari. I think it’s about time he gets what he deserves and I know you can deliver. You will be awarded most handsomely and you will be doing this region a service. Does 500,000 gil sound reasonable for the payment?”
Mitsune raised both of his eyebrows and peered at the lalafell before nodding lowly at the massive amount of money being thrown his way, “He’ll be dead before the week is over.”
