what do you think annie johanna and finnick’s respective hobbies are in ideal circumstances where they are able to engage in hobbies? i know we’ve talked about annie and finnick writing and neither one being particularly good at it but the act of writing itself being grounding or helpful for sorting out thoughts.

hobbies!! let’s talk about hobbies. skipping the writing because you mentioned it
Annie: I think Annie’s main Thing (because many of us have many hobbies but out of those hobbies there’s always a Thing) is tatting. if you do not know what tatting is you should all look it up because it is absolutely crazy. how do people do that. I’ve thought about taking a class for ages but it legitimately scares me. anyway she’s been tatting basically forever, her trainer and mentor both told her to use another hobby (singing) as her talent because tatting creates physical objects that could then be sold and exploited, and she listened, so tatting is never really taken from her. she almost uses it as an olive branch with the other victors in Four, she makes them things and they of course then soften because who cannot soften when someone presents you with a gift ranging from earrings to a table runner and says “oh it’s nothing”. nobody that’s who. she’s not doing it intentionally to manipulate them, it’s just that at some point when you are a fiber arts person and unemployed you do actually produce too many items and they have to go somewhere.
Johanna: Johanna…I hc that Johanna comes from a very artistic family. as a kid, she’s very involved in the arts (as much as you can be in Panem), which in her family are mostly pottery and beadwork. after her Games her hands shake, she gets migraines (which she had before but now have significantly worsened), and her patience is shot so the beadwork is out but she does pottery sometimes. she hand throws, she does not use a wheel, and we have now reached the extent of my pottery knowledge. but she actually has a lot of hobbies overall, the pottery is just the most meaningful to her. she is someone who I think sees physical activity as a hobby and has a healthy relationship with it, she also likes building things and with that, she enjoys painting either the things she builds or whatever she feels like.
Finnick: he knows how to knit and he likes it but he doesn’t exactly do it as a hobby, more out of necessity because he is not a small man and if he wants a nice sweater, Mags loves him but she probably has arthritis and she’s not going to be doing a full cableknit sweater for a guy that’s like 6’ 4”. but I think he actually gets kind of crazy with it he’s doing incredibly complex intarsia with no pattern and Annie’s like …is this fun? this looks hard. and he just sort of shrugs. plus I think it’d be cute if they were both fiber arts people. I think, though, he’s actually very gifted mathematically (this also plays into the knitting because intarsia with no pattern? man’s doing serious geometry in his head) and something he really enjoys doing is designing buildings, but super avant garde ones. think Gaudi esque. he’s terrible at the actual execution of building anything but great news, he has Annie and Johanna in his life, and one time Johanna sees him sketching up some crazy design, snatches it from him, and goes No Fucking Way. she builds a scale model and brings it back to him and is like so you’re completely being wasted and overlooked in every capacity, that’s actually brilliant, and Finnick quickly changes the subject.
