VELVETTE X MELISSA
I'm not usually one to seriously ship characters that just either stand next to each other or interact briefly but Hazbin Hotel has a chokehold on me, so I guess anything is possible. I was already heavily shipping huskerdust when they had one interaction in the pilot at that point, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Something shifted when I saw this. Melissa looks very happy to be dressed by her, and I don't blame her. 😍
I didn't see this photo on my first watch but when I saw people pointing it out, I suddenly got really invested in this ship?! How did this happen???
I honestly just needed this picture alone, but I have been reading some fun things pointed out that got me hooked on this ship even more.
-Melissa is the only model that Velvette calls out to by name. She must be one of her top assistants if she is bothering to remember her name at all. -As seen in Season 1 episode 2, (demonstrated by Melissa!!), Velvette has the ability to instantly snap clothes onto people. So, she is choosing to interact with Mellisa physically by measuring and fitting her
Melissa also is just really cute!!! I love how her hair looks like either a mouth or carnivorous plant and her eyelashes are so pretty! Velvette is gorgeous but that's just standard.
If this were to be canon, I wonder what their dynamic would be? My partner pointed out that it would be different depending on if Velvette owns Melissa soul or not.
NO SOUL CONTRACT
Velvette could have a soft spot for her, so Melissa gets special treatment when they are alone, but she still doesn't treat her well in public. She has an image to maintain and wants to command fear and respect from her other workers. Although she might slip up here and there, enough for the other workers to notice that Melissa is clearly favored. Of course, Melissa would be absolutely infatuated with her. She does her tasks well and understands how to fulfill Velvette's wants and needs, so sometimes Velvette will return some affection. Definitely still a clear power dynamic here, but Velvette would be an attentive lover behind closed doors.
SOUL CONTRACT
If Velvette owns her soul, she just sees Melissa as her favorite to toy with. She finds Melissa attractive and if she does a good job she will be rewarded, but she doesn't treat Melissa like a typical lover. She is harsh and demanding, with just mild hints of affection. She likes the control and power from owning her soul. We can get deep into being toxic with Melissa still falling for Velvette, (perhaps that's why she signed her soul away), despite how she is treated. Velvette could gain some twisted love for Melissa as well. Oh and maybe Melissa gains a bit of superiority being Velvette's favorite and lords over the others. She gains a bit of a cruel streak but is still subserviate to Velvette.
I don't know just spit bailing here! There is untapped potential. I'm all for some toxic yuri!!!
I unfortunately don't see much of them here on Tumblr, unless I'm just looking in the wrong places. Is this what it's like to ship a rare pair? I don't go here usually 😭
Thankfully it seems to have more fanart and discussion on other social media, but I hope it catches on a little here as well.
Has the fandom decided on a ship name yet? I've seen Velissa, Melvette, and Melvel but some other fun names would be cool!
