I was the same way-- super intimidated by healing! But it’s honestly really fun and not as bad as I feared it would be.

I’m not a healer main so I’m no expert, but here’s some advice:

Keep Regen on the tank, but be careful not to apply it before the tank pulls, or you will most likely draw aggro

You don’t need to constantly keep everyone topped off. Before I got more comfortable with the job, I would usually throw a heal out when someone’s health dropped to about half. It’s okay if you overheal a bit when you’re still getting used to the job, but as you get more comfy, you’ll get a feel for how long it takes to recover from damage taken.

The previous point will tie into this one: help with DPS! WHM in particular packs a pretty hefty punch, especially when you get spells like Aflatus Misery, and you contributing to the group’s DPS will help defeat enemies faster. Holy is an AOE attack that also adds a stun effect that works on most adds-- which is a godsend if your tank does a wall-to-wall pull and is being beaten to a pulp by 20 monsters.

When you unlock the lily gauge, make sure you use them! Even if you don’t need to use them, you should still use them so that you don’t overcap on the timer, because you can keep building up your blood lilies to cast Aflatus Misery, AKA your WHM nuke!!

Don’t forget to use Lucid Dreaming so you don’t find yourself low on mana! I usually cast it when I’m at around 5k MP

If you have the time and MP to do so, take care of lengthy status ailments like Slow/Heavy/Bleed from your party members. Sometimes a debuff is negligible, like a ~5 second poison. Bleed especially can be very dangerous if you don’t deal with it. Your allies will be soooo grateful.

As for level 50+ Black Mage tips, the most important thing is to learn to keep up your spell timer (maintaining Enochian once you get to level 56). Using abilities like Transpose and Umbral Soul between pulls in dungeons (or during boss fights if you mess up your rotation and the timer is about to run out) is really important for this.
