Barry felt his chest pound as he made sure the velvet box was in his pocket for the hundredth time today.

He was finally going to do it.

Today, Melody was no longer going to be his girlfriend, she was going to become his wife.

He still remembered the day they met, he was eighteen at the time and they met while playing some video game. They were put on the same team and realized they worked better together more than they thought. Melody saved his butt in the game more than he'd like to admit. Barry adored how great of a player Melody was and asked to play with her again sometime, Melody excitedly accepted and they ended up friending each other.

Through these frequent hangouts, Barry learned Melody was taking a gap year similar to him. But planned on attending some university in her hometown to pursue a major in film once she got a grant. She sent Barry some of her photos and films when private messaging, Barry couldn't help but be impressed. Not to mention the shocking range of collectibles Barry learned she owned through her films.

After months of playing with one another and realizing they loved the same cartoons, food, and everything else, it didn't take long for Barry to realize she was the one.

So, Barry asked if Melody wanted to meet up.

Melody enthusiastally accepted the invite and they had the most fun they'd ever had. After two months of talking and playing video games, Barry got the courage to ask Melody to be his girlfriend one FaceTime.

At first, both parties were hesitant. Unsure about long distance relationships and if they were right for them, but they were able to make it work.

Now, Barry was finishing up college, and Melody was in an intern for a film studio, and still together.

And today, Barry is preparing to propose to Melody.

Kenneth was kind enough to pitch in a few dollars to help pay for the ring, and Melody was already on her way to his college.

Barry anxiously waited for Melody to arrive to his dorm room. Cologne borrowed from Kenneth imprinted on his skin, a bowtie around his neck and the ring (after checking again) sitting patiently and politely in his pocket.

Eventually, a knock was heard from the door and Barry shot himself up to let Melody in.

Barry felt blood pool to his cheeks, "Melody! So glad you could make it!"

"I am too! The drive here was crazy...But it was worth it! Oh wait, I need to ask you something before we do anything. Sorry, I've been waiting SOOO long to tell you and I REALLY can't wait now!"

Barry was surprised that Melody also had something to say, but despite him also being eager to say what he needed to say, he silenced his throat to let Melody speak. Besides, the ring in his pocket wasn't going anywhere. Unless-

Barry shoved a hand into his pocket.

Oh good, it was still there.

"Oh thank you, Bluebarry!" Melody cheered before shutting the door behind her, ensuring full privacy.

Melody inhaled, her mood shifting to full seriousness. She closed her eyes, and she got down on one knee-

Wait, one knee?

A gasp passed through Barry's lips.

Melody reached into her fanny pack, revealing a ring box, and slowly opened it to reveal an amazonite ring.

Melody's gaze softened as a smile blossomed through her lips. "Barry...If you could ask me what my favorite memory with you was, I'd say meeting you. I remember growing up on obscure cartoons and having no one else to talk about them to, but one night playing video games, I met you...And you became my player two, I've never been happier to have you by my side. So, Barry Henderson, I ask you today, if you'd like to become my husband."

Barry was frozen solid on the carpet, his body shook so much he thought the velvet box fell out his pocket.

He was...He was going to-

Seeing Barry's paralysis, Melody began to panic. She stood up. "I'm sorry, Barry! W-Was it too soon? I'm so sorry- It's fine if you don't want to get married now, w-we can wait for as long as-"

Melody's panic made Barry's body thaw, and he could quickly became mobile. "Melody, Melody! No, I want to get married, more than anything! I was just..."

"Caught off guard? Sorry, I didn't really plan this..."

"You didn't?"

"No, don't get me wrong I DO want to marry you someday. But I never planned for today to be the day I ask you. I was just driving from Annapolis to here, when I stopped at this jewelry store to buy something to eat from their café. While I was waiting for my order, I saw this...Ring. I just kept staring at it, and imagining proposing to you with it, then our wedding, t-then our future and how much I want to do that with you...So, I brought the ring and you know the rest..."

"O-Oh Melody..."

"My mom kept telling me to wait for you to propose because, y'know proposing is usually something boys do...But when I saw that ring, I knew today was the day I wanted to ask you if you'd like to get married..." Melody felt her cheeks swell and redden, matching the velvet box she still didn't know was in Barry's pocket.

Barry smiled, "Melody, I'd love to marry you..."

They shared a kiss for a solid second, then Barry remembered what was in his pocket.

"Well, in terms of proposals, I had something to ask you too..." Barry reached into his pocket, and revealed the ring waiting to be showed to Melody.

Melody's eyes widen, "Oh, Barry, I had no idea you wanted to propose too-"

"No, no, don't be. We're still getting married either way, right?"

Melody let out a giggle, "Yeah, we are..."

Melody slipped her ring onto Barry's finger, and Barry slipped his ring onto Melody's.

Melody admired the ring on Barry's finger, sitting so beautifully as if it was made just for him to wear it. "Barry, if you'd like, you can still propose. I'm sure you had everything prepared, I'd hate to have you not use it."

Barry smiled, "Yeah, I had a speech written and everything that David helped me with."

"I'd love to hear it."
