hoooooo boy the kings of not expressing an emotion in a normal way ever even at gunpoint sdlkfjskldf i feel like this tends to manifest for them either as "dancing around each other for ages" or a "they both just know that the other one knows" type of thing
they're both so avoidant it makes me ILL cause like u know kaiser's whole facade is six feet thick and sae probably finds it exhausting (though that much more rewarding when he gets to see beneath it). meanwhile sae's out here talking with fae logic like TECHNICALLY what he said is true even though he made it sound horrible and cruel and like he hates kaiser etc etc sdkljfklsdf he just can't say what he means without giving it a sharp edge and kaiser's much the same, his sharp edges just look prettier. actually, he gets the fancy blades and sae's out here with a bat full of nails or something lmao king of blunt force trauma
regardless, the point is: they're both awful at getting close to anyone or expressing any vulnerability which i think makes them perfect for each other bc they both clock the avoidant behavior IMMEDIATELY. they know what's happening. they know why, because they're the same way, and there's a solidarity and solace in that at the end of the day. i think it also ultimately makes them both more inclined toward opening up to each other just because there's a quiet desperation in both of them (well, kaiser's might be louder) for someone who understands. tbh wouldn't be shocked if they try to out-trauma each other at some point, like kaiser drops the lore bomb about his dad and sae, panicking about expressing any kind of sincere emotion about it, is just like "yeah well [insert spain trauma here]". this goes on until they run out and start listing stupid shit like "well i had to go to practice with a papercut" and "well rin accidentally stabbed me with his action figure once". idiots. i love them.
i think they also both go into the relationship to some degree expecting to end up with the upper hand, or to win, or something like that, but they come out of it both on even footing and content to be there? like, i genuinely think once they get past all the [waves hand at everything about both of them], they'd be in a pretty secure and comfortable relationship and really trust each other in ways they don't trust anyone else. but by god it's gonna take a few miracles to get there lmaooooo
