Name: Mekabon (again)
Debut: Super Mario Land
Remember Mekabon? I remember Mekabon! Itās ok if you donāt, and you know you can be honest with me. In truth, I donāt remember Mekabon as often as Iād like to admit! Iād like to remind you about Mekabon, if thatās okay. And I checked, it is okay. Donāt worry.
Mekabon is what we in the business call a Funny Robot. If a robot makes me smile, it is a Funny Robot. What an unconventional type of enemy for Mario to jump upon! This is something that nowadays would be a friendly NPC, but in 1989, anything was possible.Ā
What is Mekabonās deal? Whatās Mekabon all about? If you asked Mekabon, it would probably sayĀ āThe name of the game isĀ āusing my detachable head as a boomerangāā, and that would be incredibly accurate! Mekabon uses its detachable head as a boomerang. Mario can jump on the detached head and body for 100 points each, but if he jumps on the entire Mekabon, he will get 400 points! Awesome! Donāt you just love racking up Points in Mario games? Getting that Score up in a Mario game? Ya-hoo!
Iāve said this before, and Iāve said this again. I love Mekabonās funny arms! These are arms just for the sake of being arms. No hands here! Just arms. As Mod Sockop has pointed out, Mekabon is the opposite of a modern Kirby character! Donāt underestimate it, though. Mekabon can most certainly poke and prod like nobodyās business.
And that is about all I have to say about Mekabon! It is a great funny robot. Arenāt you glad to know about it now?Ā
