I recently got to interview Meg Myers: I posted on twitter asking fans what they wanted to know about Meg and she answered the ones I picked out. Also are a series of questions from me, to her. Hope you enjoy!

(Meg Myers) – corey joseph- i didn’t think about gorillas being in my next video but now that you mention it, i’m definitely going to make a video with gorillas ASAP. thank you for the inspiration.

(Meg Myers) – i don’t know, i mean i guess once my album comes out theres a much bigger chance of me going over seas. hopefully soon guys. i really have no idea, i guess it just depends on how good my album does in other countries.and yea i had a few all ages shows on this last tour. i really don’t know that either. its usually a mix of all ages shows and over 21.
@TexansDC [twitter] asks how you manages to pull off “those badass, visceral screams without ruining your throat.?"And I would like to add a sub question, do you find yourself getting sore throats more often, or is the screaming a good outlet for you?
(Meg Myers) – texansDC- i started seeing a vocal coach a couple years ago because my throat was bothering me. he just tells me to be free with my screaming, don’t hold back or tighten up or it can cause damage. the more loose you are when you scream the better it. however, wen it comes to yelling and singing intensely on the verge or screaming, i sing from my abdomen and my head. its hard to really explain, but try focusing on your stomach and your forehead and make a winey noise almost when you practice, not from your throat, but almost like the roof of your mouth. anyway i hope this isn’t too confusing. also, the more i sing, the easier it is to sing freely. i don’t really get sore throats unless i get sick. i do always make my sets so that the crazy screaming song is last, because my voice needs to rest afterwards. also make sure to warm up and cool downs are good too, although I’m pretty bad at remembering to do those.

(Meg Myers) – james the gill- a new month. it would be called leave me the fuck alone and it would be a full month that i could be completely alone, no texts calls or emails, except for my family of course. and i would put it between september and october.

(Meg Myers) – chelmay27- good question. no i have not. i know i’m dark but thats a little too dark for me.

(Meg Myers) – dutchgraves- a shitty one so that i can drink the nice one. brand? I’m from tennessee, i have no idea.

(Allison) – So my first question is, have you ever forgotten the lyrics to a song on stage?
(Meg Myers) – yes i have forgotten the lyrics to songs onstage. especially when i’m overly emotional. it doesn’t really matter to me, i don’t think anyone has ever noticed and if they have then they just get to see that i’m a human.
(Allison) – Next, have you updated your body with any art Tattoos:((Alien(turned into heart) on her ankle. A cross on her shoulder (represents a butterfly in blackfoot Indian)A small Latin written tattoo on her side boob Two names on her arm)) [since 2012]? And what do they mean to you? (like the V I on your fingers made noticeable in the “Desire” music video.)
(Meg Myers) – tattoos- yup all that is right. the latin tattoo says light and truth in latin, its from the bible. i raised butterflies and developed a close relationship with them. I’m also blackfoot indian, seminole and cherokee, so i decided to get a butterfly in a blackfoot indian drawing.the alien tattoo that i turned into a heart later on, was my first tattoo i got when i was 14 and its homemade. the butterfly cross is homemade too. the two names on my arm are havilah and schuyler, my little brother and sister.i also have two finger tattoos that mean 6, my favorite number.i think the IV on my fingers (6) is the only artwork I’ve had done since 2012. i don’t want that many tattoos. maybe i would do 2 or 3 more very small ones, but i doubt it. sometimes i wish i didn’t even have any tattoos to be honest. i like simplicity visually.
(Allison) – When you’re on stage and the crowd sings along every word with you, what goes through your mind? When did you notice it start happening more often?
(Meg Myers) – when the crowd is singing all the lyrics to my songs its definitely emotional and warms my heart and makes the whole performance so much more fun. it really started happening more than ever on this headlining tour i just got off of. it was really special. at first the thought that went through my head was probably holy shit. i also had a moment where i couldn’t hear myself over the crowd and i almost asked them to be quiet so i could hear myself haha.
(Allison) – if you could write a song for another artist who would you want it to be?
(Meg Myers) – i’m really not sure to be honest, i don’t really listen to a lot of the music out there these days, it doesn’t do much for my soul. but i would love to collaborate with perfume genius, trent reznor, alt-j, enya, sting, john frusciante. also robert plant, steve martin one day. I’m sure theres quite a few more.
(Allison) What state have you not been to yet that you’d like to be a tourist in? Which would you want to perform on stage the most?
(Meg Myers) – i still haven’t been to montana, thats where i wanna go so so bad. i don’t really know where i wanna perform, i guess florida so that my moms side of the family can come see me.
(Allison) – What’s a typical day off for you like?
(Meg Myers) – i don’t really get days off, but if i do, I’m sleeping in and hiking and watching a cartoon.
(Allison) –What 3 songs are your most played lately? What is your “guilty pleasure” song? Go to song for sad days? When you feel like dancing?
(Meg Myers) – most played 3 songs lately, i dunno but albums are ryan adams new album, bob seger (because its the only cd we had in the van on tour), and the new my morning jacket album is great. my guilty pleasure song is maps by marroon 5, i like that stupid fucking chorus. thats a real guilty pleasure right there. go to song for sad days, enya because she lifts my spirits and lets me know its ok to be sad. but also classical. like dark slow piano sad classical. ludovico einaudi is the best. also townes van zandt. for dancing i love the police and depeche mode is a good one. i dunno, i can get down to most anything. but definitely not EDM, that is truly my worst nightmare.
(Allison) – CDs or music on a phone?
(Meg Myers) – i play vinyls and music from spotify on my phone. i have some speakers but i need a receiver.
(Allison) – Do you see yourself moving out of California or letting your roots form there?
(Meg Myers) – i definitely see myself leaving california ASAP. i don’t like being in LA. i can’t wait to move to the country and away from people.
