2025 dominance stats
You can find the original post here.
This season saw 4 race winners. Max Verstappen, George Russell, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The average across 75 years of racing is 5 individual drivers with 1 or more wins per season.
Max had the most wins with a total of 8 wins this season. The average across 75 years of racing is 7 total wins per driver per season.
The dominance per driver over the 24 race weekends of the season is 33%. The average across 75 years of racing is 44% dominance for a single driver over one season.
The number of teams with 1 or more race wins in 2025 is 3, Mclaren, RedBull Racing and Mercedes. The average across 75 years of racing is 4 teams with one or more win.
Mclaren has the most wins as a team with a total of 14. The average across 75 years of racing is 8 wins.
This year Mclaren's dominance is 58% over the 24 race weekends. The average is 56% across 75 years of racing.
however, interestingly, in highly dominant seasons the driver dominance is around 50% and the team dominance is around 80%. With 1988 being an outlier for Mclaren reaching 94% team dominance. As well as 2016 being an outlier for Mercedes with 90%, and lastly Max's 2023 season being both in driver dominance and team dominance an outlier with 86% driver dominance and 95% team dominance. (more about this is the original post linked above). Now with regards to 2025 especially the driver dominance is interesting to me. It's rare that the driver dominance is split 3 ways so strongly. 33% or around this percentage is more common when the number of individual race winners is higher and the title fight is between more than 3 drivers.
In conclusion, this season looks average but in context of the way the wins are split between drivers is pretty rare, especially one driver being from a different team and with a different engine manufacturer. For a season where one team seemed so dominant the team dominance is surprisingly average.
