Thinking of getting all of the Medalist manga in German and compare them with the English version and the original Japanese.

The nuance of languages and translations.

The English version translated the original Japanese almost one to one with some diversions, but the German version:

Und warum sieht er so gut aus, obwohl er halbnackt ist?

(Why does he still look good, even though he’s half naked?)

In which if you translate it directly in English Tsukasa would mean that Jun is still physically attractive, that is, his physical aesthetics are pleasing to the eyes, not only exuding confidence or energy which the original Japanese and English versions intended.

Halbnackt is the German version, which can be read literally. Whereas the original Japanese and English versions do mean that Jun is naked. Na-ked, mind?

I still wonder the significance of these pages, yo! Scratch that, I do know. It is a symbol of power play. It is Jun’s battle dress.

Jun is already aware that Tsukasa is on the video call. Even then he doesn’t put his clothes on or anything. Like a boss he sits with a towel loosely wrapped around his waist and the smaller towel that used to belong to Inori to dry his hair on his shoulders. Either he took a liking on the towel or he couldn’t bother to bring it back. With his nakedness and the towel wrapped around his shoulders suggesting “I don’t care to whom this belongs and this is now mine,” it is a deliberate act of intimidation, of showing his power, his pride, and to flaunt his body, an attempt to seduce Tsukasa…

He must have realised that the younger coach idolises him (with Shinichiro already confirmed it to him and Rioh finding it out). He’s aware of his beauty and elegance, above all, his talent. Owing to the fact that he pays attention to his physical appearance. Certainly, though Tsukasa is somewhat affected of Jun’s virtual nearness and the blatant show of skin.

Is he looking at Jun’s throat or the towel? In the end, he has stood firm remembering the promise he made to Inori appearing that he’s not intimidated at all. How could he not when despite his anger toward Jun (he shouted at him after insulting Inori’s determination to be Hikaru’s equal during their first meeting, episode 5, season 1 and once again on episode 5, season 2) still admires the gold medalist.

Time will tell if Tsurumaikada will grace us once again with this kind of content featuring the two.
