Although I was mostly happy about my decision to choose the med program at UTD over the other schools I had wanted to go to, I couldn't help but feel like I was going to miss out on the experience of getting to take intellectually stimulating and interesting classes. I never felt this regret more keenly than when I heard my friends and people on appblr talk about the amazing classes and seminars they were signing up for. But now that I've registered for courses and spent hours (still do, tbh) looking through the course catalog, I can say that I don't feel sad about that anymore. Because I discovered that UTD has interesting courses of its own that I get to take practically whenever I want. When I was trying to learn more about the med program before committing, the impression I got was that all I was going to be able to do academically was take the classes I needed to fulfill typical premed requirements - in other words, take a bunch of science and math courses and whatever else was in the seemingly-strict curriculum and not really have the opportunity to branch out and explore other fields that I wanted to study just for fun. I am so happy to know now that that couldn't be farther from the truth. To be honest, nearly all my misgivings about the med program have been resolved or disproved, and that's very satisfying. It honestly just makes me more excited to begin :)
